Mai Ngoc Anh, born in 2008, is one of the promising faces of Vietnamese athletics. According to Head of the delegation Nguyen Duc Nguyen, this achievement is not surprising because Anh has been identified as a key athlete, having won a gold medal in the high jump at the 2024 Southeast Asian U18 Championship held in Malaysia with a result of 1m68.

At this tournament, Anh won the silver medal with a score of 1m69. The gold medal went to Dong Jialing (China) with a score of 1m73. This event gathered many excellent athletes in the region, and Anh's achievement is considered a very positive signal for the development of young Vietnamese athletes.

Previously, the Vietnamese youth athletics team under the leadership of Mr. Nguyen Duc Nguyen arrived in Saudi Arabia on April 13 to get used to the climate and practice. On April 16, the team officially entered the competition.

Athlete Le Thi Thao, the pioneer, ranked 6th in the women's 400m hurdles final with a time of 1 minute 06 seconds 60. Meanwhile, athlete Luong Thi Khan ranked 4th in the women's 3000m with a time of 10 minutes 27 seconds 43.

Previously, Mai Ngoc Anh, Le Thi Thao and Luong Thi Khan had impressive performances at the 2024 Southeast Asian Youth Championships. At that time, Khan won the gold medal in the 3,000m event, Anh won the gold medal in the high jump, and Thao - considered the "descendant" of Quach Thi Lan - also made steady progress through domestic youth competitions.

The 2025 Asian Athletics U18 Championship is a gathering place for the continent's top talents, with a rich content system for both men and women. This is a valuable opportunity for young Vietnamese athletes to practice their expertise, bravery and competitive mentality at the international level, preparing for bigger playgrounds such as the SEA Games, Asiad and further, the Olympics.
