Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport accepts international language certificates

Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport has just decided to adjust the regulation on exempting English subjects for students with international language certificates when studying at the school.

This afternoon (December 11), speaking with Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, said that after Mr. Tuan reported to the school's Science and Training Council, the Council met and agreed to adjust the regulations on exempting English subjects for students with international foreign language certificates according to regulations.

Accordingly, students with international language certificates as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training submit them to the school, the Science and Training Council will consider exempting them from English courses at the school according to the corresponding level. This regulation will be applied to students of all courses of the school and to other types of international language certificates, not just IELTS certificates.

However, Mr. Tuan said that even if they have an international language certificate, if the survey results do not pass the 5 English levels in the program designed by the school, students still need to continue studying the remaining levels to complete the foreign language output standards as prescribed. According to Mr. Tuan, the school's enrollment plan clearly states that students are allowed to be directly admitted when they have an English certificate of IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT60, TOEFL ITP 530, TOEIC600, level 4 according to the foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam. Therefore, students who have submitted their certificates at that time will be exempted from the English levels corresponding to their abilities. The number of students admitted directly through the English method is 161 students.

According to Decision 333/QD-DHGTVT regulating foreign language output standards, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport stipulates that students must achieve English level 3 or higher according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam of the Ministry of Education and Training and have specialized English knowledge to ensure that students are capable of researching specialized documents and working in the field of transport.

Currently, according to regulation 240829-01/QD-UTH-DT, the school has adjusted the content of cases where students are exempted from studying subjects, including adding students with international language certificates according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Previously, Thanh Nien Newspaper received feedback from students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport regarding foreign language output standards in graduation consideration. According to a student of course K20, in 2020, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport issued Decision 670/QD-DHGTVT on September 25, 2020, allowing students to submit TOEIC 500 certificates for consideration of recognition of foreign language output standards. At that time, on the student page, the output standard information was still TOEIC 500. However, according to Decision 333/QD-DHGTVT, the school abolished regulations contrary to previous regulations, the school does not accept international foreign language certificates submitted by students to consider foreign language output standards. Students are required to study and complete English courses organized by the school.
