Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia Specialized Schools, Ho Chi Minh City increase 10th grade enrollment quota

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia Specialized Schools in Ho Chi Minh City have both increased their enrollment targets for grade 10 for the 2024-2025 school year.

However, this year is also the first year that two specialized high schools in Ho Chi Minh City do not enroll non-specialized grade 10 students and integrated grade 10 students.

Admission quota for grade 10 at Le Hong Phong Specialized School

In the 2024-2025 school year, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted plans to organize 13 specialized classes. Of these, there are 12 specialized classes like previous years: literature, math, computer science, English, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history, Chinese, Japanese, and French. This year, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted will open more specialized classes in English - math - science.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the increase in enrollment quota for grade 10 at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted is based on the following factors: actual conditions of facilities, teaching staff, student needs as well as the development orientation of the specialized high school.

Specific targets are as follows:

It is expected that the following specialized 10th grade classes will have stable quotas (35 students/class) such as: literature (70 students), math (105 students), English (105 students), physics (70 students), chemistry (70 students), information technology (35 students), French (35 students).

The quota for specialized classes is expected to increase compared to last year, including: Biology: recruiting 70 students, an increase of 35 students compared to the 2023-2024 school year; specialized classes in history, geography, Japanese, Chinese, each specialized subject recruits 35 students (an increase of about 15 students compared to before).

The English - Math - Science specialized class will enroll 70 students for the first year of operation at this school.

Tran Dai Nghia Specialized School opens many new classes

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said: Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is expected to open a specialized class in English - math - science with 70 quotas.

In addition, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school will also open a specialized history and geography class. Each specialized class will enroll 35 students.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training informed that the opening of specialized history and geography classes at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted starting from the 2024-2025 school year is based on the school's capacity to organize training in this subject, also in accordance with the circular regulating classes in specialized schools.

In addition, expanding specialized classes in the context of specialized high schools stopping recruiting non-specialized 10th graders, diversifying specialized classes, creates more opportunities for capable students to develop in a suitable specialized environment.

How is the test?

This year, the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7, 2024.

Regarding the new specialized subjects of English - Math - Science, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, shared: "The professional council is researching and calculating the amount of knowledge in English, Math, Science (in English) to make it suitable. In particular, the specialized English - Math - Science exam will reduce the content of English knowledge and supplement Math, Science knowledge in English compared to the traditional specialized English exam.

Of course, the level of requirements for the entrance exam for the English - Math - Science specialized class will be more difficult than the integrated English exam used for candidates registering for the integrated English 10th grade class.
