TPO - Coach Julian Nagelsmann and his team are facing a big problem at the Herzogenaurach training center, even considering leaving to be able to focus on training and preparing for the match with Denmark in the round of 16.
The Herzogenaurach complex in Bavaria is surrounded by lots of trees and is exceptionally quiet, so it was chosen as the German national team's base during EURO 2024. Coach Julian Nagelsmann and his team have been here for 4 weeks and are completely satisfied with the available conditions, until the appearance of the "uninvited guests".
Recent flooding in Bavaria and wet weather have significantly increased the number of mosquitoes in the area, including the Herzogenaurach training camp, which is densely wooded. From daily life to training, the German national team players are constantly bothered by mosquitoes.
"There are a lot of mosquitoes here and we need to find a solution. Maybe we need to create a wind to chase them away. If not, we need to think about moving somewhere else," coach Julian Nagelsmann said about the discomfort he and his players have to endure.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer also spoke out about the issue after the 1-1 draw with Switzerland in the final group stage match. At the same time, he reminded his teammates to always put down mosquito nets to avoid being bitten. Striker Maximilian Beier revealed that he "got bitten a few times" and said that, apart from the mosquitoes, everything was fine.
Germany have already put in place a number of measures, from using mosquito repellent to installing fans to create air circulation. They have also kept away from mosquito breeding grounds, such as the pool area, where a giant screen has been installed so players can watch the EURO 2024 matches outdoors.
At 2am on June 30, Germany will play Denmark in the round of 16 at the Westfalenstadion, Dortmund. This is the fourth venue for the German team at EURO 2024, after Munich, Stuttgart and Frankfurt.
