Brazil coach loses job after humiliating defeat to Argentina

Brazil are currently fourth in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, 10 points behind leaders Argentina. The 4-1 defeat to Argentina was Brazil's heaviest defeat in World Cup qualifying history. In their most recent major tournament, the 2024 Copa America, Brazil also performed poorly and lost to Uruguay in the quarter-finals.

In announcing the dismissal of coach Dorival Junior, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed that it is looking for a replacement coach. According to ESPN Brasil, Al Hilal coach Jorge Jesus and coach Carlo Ancelotti are the two most promising candidates.
