Vietnam will meet Iraq at My Dinh Stadium in the second round of Group F of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. In the opening match, Vietnam won 2-0 away to the Philippines, while Iraq defeated visiting team Indonesia 5-1.

The match was officiated by Qatari referee Abdulla Al-Marri. In Iraq's opening match against Indonesia, the referee was also Arab Ahmed Eisa (UAE).
Group F of the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers has four teams, including Iraq, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia. The teams play a round robin, scoring points, and the top two teams advance to the third round. The third round of the qualifiers consists of 18 teams, divided into three groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing directly to the World Cup finals. The third and fourth-placed teams in each group in the third round of the qualifiers will continue to the fourth round of the qualifiers to compete for two more spots. The two teams with the third and fourth best results in the fourth round of the qualifiers will compete in the fifth round, to select a team that will play a play-off against a representative from another federation. The play-off round consists of six teams, selecting two teams to the finals.
