On the morning of April 16th, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced that three players, Quang Hai, Duy Manh, and Hoang Duc, have been selected by the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) to join the ASEAN All-Stars team. This team will participate in a special friendly match against Manchester United on May 28th at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The reason Quang Hai, Hoang Duc, and Duy Manh were included, according to the AFF, is their outstanding form, professionalism in competition, and impressive spirit in recent times. Winning the ASEAN Cup 2024 could be compelling evidence that the Vietnamese national team contributed these three important players.
Hoang Duc played a prominent role in midfield with his ability to control the game and his creative passes. Quang Hai continued to demonstrate his class with his technical skills and extensive international experience. Meanwhile, Duy Manh showed his leadership role in defense, with his solid and passionate playing style.
Previously, the AFF announced that Vietnam's head coach, Kim Sang-sik, had been selected to lead the ASEAN All Stars team against Manchester United. The ASEAN All Stars squad includes top players selected from all 12 member federations of the AFF.
The identities of the remaining assistant coaches and players from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and even Laos, Cambodia, or Timor Leste will be announced in the near future.
The friendly match between ASEAN All Stars and Manchester United is part of the Premier League teams' Southeast Asian tour and a fundraising campaign for charity. This event is seen not only as a celebration of the progress of Southeast Asian football but also as an affirmation of the role of ASEAN All Stars in spreading humanitarian values between nations.
