(Dan Tri) - Multimedia art (bio art, robotic art, coding art) is still new to the Vietnamese public, and was brought to the exhibition "Identity" by a group of high school students.
In the middle of the exhibition room, 3 multimedia artworks are placed close to 3 corners of the wall, leaving the remaining space for a small platform, on the surface of the platform there is a button, opposite the platform there is only a black wall. But when the button is pressed, the wall shows a white dot in the shape of a cell. Press the button a second time, the cell divides into two. Just like that, each press activates a new chain of cell division and the shape of a human appears. But the moment of a complete body is short-lived, the cells gradually disintegrate and the human shape also disappears.
Even if the viewer tries to press the button repeatedly, the disintegration still occurs to return to the abyss of darkness. And then a certain button activates a single cell to appear, multiply, transform, a new person is formed like an endless cycle of reincarnation.

The work "The Beginning" using programming language is a type of "coding art", created by three students Pham Quang Anh, Pham Huu Ky and Hoang Khanh Hai. Using programming to create a work of art expressing the impermanence of all things is a bold move by the group of authors.
In another corner of the room, there is a transparent silicon heart, replicating the shape of a human heart with all the valves and conduction system. But inside the heart is a cloudy yellow liquid. It is a sample of fungus taken from the To Lich River, cultured in the laboratory before being put into the silicon heart to express a concept of origin. This "bio art" work is by Pham Bui My Linh and Bui Minh Quan.
My Linh said that the cultivation of To Lich River mushrooms was originally part of another STEM project. This type of mushroom produces a pink-red color like the color of blood. However, when the experimental sample was put into a real environment, it turned yellow. In some ways, the work did not achieve the perfection that the authors initially envisioned and expected. However, the metaphor of the sacred connection between the individual and the source of energy of the nation was still fully expressed.
Hoang Minh Anh - author of a product "robotic art" shares about the difficulties when combining STEM and art. Originally pursuing STEM and being an "outsider" in art, Minh Anh believes that STEM must be very clear, coherent, and empirical, while art is very emotional, with no specific answer.
When her teachers assigned her to create a piece of "robotic art", Minh Anh could not imagine what "robot" and "art" had in common. But then she found that emotional intersection. It was a process of constantly creating, constantly thinking and expressing one's personal views on the world.
The representative of the exhibition organizing committee said that multimedia art is a temporary name for the concept of "new media art", an art form that uses materials, scientific means, techniques, and technology to express a message or thought of the creator.

"Coding art, bio art, robot art are different forms of multimedia art, which were born in the 60s and 70s in Western countries. In Vietnam, many artists pursuing multimedia art face obstacles in accessing and expanding their public files due to the stereotype of art with traditional forms of expression.
However, the artists and curators accompanying the group of talented students in this project believe that multimedia art has a future in Vietnam in the context of strong development of science and technology," said a representative of the exhibition's organizing committee.

Visual artist Ha Chau Bao Nhi - one of the advisors of the student group commented: "We are living in an era where science and technology are indispensable. Therefore, it is obvious that artists feel urged to create works using scientific materials such as biology, robotics, and programming. Art and science are gradually no longer separated.
In practice, the process of creating multimedia art is similar to doing science. First, you have to come up with a hypothesis, then research, test, and prove whether the hypothesis is feasible or not.
Multimedia art is not a work of art to be viewed for fun, but rather to lead the viewer to think.
The speed of scientific and technological development in Vietnam is very fast. That is the basis for multimedia art to have the opportunity to establish a foothold in the general art flow."
The works displayed at the exhibition were created by students of the GATE Center (Vinschool) (Photo: Organizing Committee).
The Identity Exhibition takes place from March 15-31 at 29 Hang Bai, Hanoi, with nearly 40 works of art in many genres and creative materials.
All works at the exhibition "Identity" were created by 14 students from Vinschool's Center for Talent Development and Consulting (GATE).
The GATE Center enrolls only 8 students from grades 6-12 each time from the entire Vinschool system. Each student is designed with a personalized training program. In some cases, the center will invite leading artists in each field to support students to develop their full potential.
GATE is currently a pioneer in visual arts training for high school students, keeping up with world art trends.
