The three officers on this mission include:
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Hieu, former lecturer of the Department of Aviation Weapons, Faculty of Aviation Engineering, Air Defense - Air Force Academy, was assigned to work as a Military Observer at the MINUSCA mission (Central African Republic).
Major Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan, former lecturer of the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Information Technology - Foreign Languages, Army Academy, was assigned to work as a Logistics Staff Officer at the UNISFA mission (Abyei region).
Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Tien Long, former Assistant to the Mass Mobilization Department, Political Department, Command of Region 4, Navy, was assigned to work as a Military Observer at the UNMISS mission (South Sudan).
Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department (Ministry of National Defense), said that in order to prepare replacement forces well, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department has proactively selected officers to ensure they meet the requirements of military capacity, level, knowledge of UN peacekeeping, foreign language proficiency and good health.
The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department is actively preparing to deploy an additional position at the United Nations Headquarters and send personnel to apply for the position of Commander of the Military Police Force at the Central African Republic Mission at the invitation of the United Nations.
Assigning tasks to the three officers, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, affirmed that being sent to perform UN peacekeeping missions is an honor not only for each individual but also for the Vietnam People's Army. The areas where Vietnamese soldiers are deployed are all remote, difficult, and potentially dangerous.
During the 10 years that Vietnam has participated in this special humanitarian activity, the officers on duty in individual positions have affirmed the bravery, will, and capacity of officers of the Vietnam People's Army in the eyes of international colleagues and friends.
Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien requested that immediately after arriving at the mission to receive their assignment, the three officers need to quickly grasp the local situation, get to work immediately, and perform well their assigned duties and tasks; strengthen research work, improve their ability to analyze, advise, and forecast the situation.
Officers need to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the viewpoints and foreign policies of the Party, State and Army; strictly comply with the discipline of the Vietnam People's Army, regulations of the United Nations, laws of the host country, regulations ensuring security and safety of people, weapons and equipment; always ensure military style while performing tasks.
The Deputy Minister of National Defense requested the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department to coordinate with agencies and units throughout the army to continue to maintain, develop and innovate to make a breakthrough in the work of taking care of resources and preparing replacement forces for individual positions in particular and unit-level formations in general in participating in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
On behalf of the officers receiving the mission, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Hieu affirmed that the officers will always be united, proactively cooperate with colleagues, and determined to excellently complete the mission assigned by the United Nations, the Central Military Commission, and the Minister of National Defense.
At the mission, soldiers will strictly comply with military discipline, United Nations security and safety regulations as well as the laws and culture of the host country; strengthen communication, actively participate in humanitarian activities, and contribute to spreading the image of the country and people of Vietnam.
To date, Vietnam has sent 799 military and police officers and staff to deploy individually and as units at 3 missions and the United Nations Headquarters (including 792 military officers and 7 police officers).
2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Vietnam deploying forces to participate in the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
The first four military officers were sent by the President to perform peacekeeping duties in 2024.
