2024 will be truly complete for Tran Quyet Chien, if Vietnam's number 1 player wins the title of World Cup champion of the season.

2024 is a quite successful year for Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards and Tran Quyet Chien personally. The player born in 1984 won the first World Cup of 2024 in Bogota - Colombia in March. In October 2024, he affirmed his class when he won the title in Veghel - Netherlands, bringing the total number of World Cup championships to 4.

Despite many successes, 2024 will be more complete and memorable if Quyet Chien wins the World Cup champion title of the season. Notably, this is the first time the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB) has applied scoring, ranking and awarding prizes to players based on the total achievements through the World Cup stages during the year. Accordingly, the champion of the season will receive 30,000 euros (about 799 million VND), the runner-up will receive 15,000 euros (about 399 million VND), and the third place will receive 10,000 euros (about 266 million VND).

The "key" for the number 1 Vietnamese player to be able to reach the above special title is the final World Cup in 2024, taking place in Sharm el Sheikh - Egypt from December 1 to 7. Quyet Chien must compete fiercely with the player currently ranked number 1 in the world, Dick Jaspers (Netherlands).

Before the Seoul World Cup 2024 taking place in early November in Korea, Quyet Chien was the leader on the 2024 World Cup achievement rankings. But after the tournament in the land of kimchi, Dick Jaspers, with the championship title, equaled the score with Quyet Chien. Up to now, after 6 World Cup matches in 2024, Quyet Chien and Jaspers are leading with 248 points. The third place is Tasdemir Tayfun (Türkiye) with 160 points and certainly cannot improve his record (because the champion player only received 80 points).

Thus, Quyet Chien and Dick Jaspers will have an exciting competition. The player who goes further in the 2024 Sharm el Sheikh World Cup will become the champion of the season.

Because they are in the top 14 of the world rankings, Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Luc are seeded and given a special place in the main round (32 players) of the 2024 Sharm el Sheikh World Cup. Fate has brought the two Vietnamese players together in Group C, alongside host Mahmoud Ayman. The remaining players in Group C will be determined after the qualifying rounds end. It can be assessed that Quyet Chien will not have difficulty winning a ticket to the knockout round if he plays to his full potential. Meanwhile, Thanh Luc has also been in good form recently, so fans can fully expect the two Vietnamese players to win both tickets to the next round of Group C.

The 2024 Sharm el Sheikh World Cup takes the results of the rankings updated on September 29. On this ranking, Bao Phuong Vinh has dropped to 16th place. Therefore, the Binh Duong player has to compete in the 4th qualifying round, where there are Chiem Hong Thai, Tran Duc Minh and billiards "genius" Frederic Caudron.

If there is no change, Vietnamese billiards will have 11 players participating in the World Cup in Egypt.

YEN NHI UNEXPECTEDLY JOINED PBA

Vietnam's No. 1 female player Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi has decided to leave the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation (VBSF) and go to Korea to compete in the Professional Billiards Association (PBA) tournament. Yen Nhi said she will first try her hand in the remaining two rounds of 2024. The female player born in 1999 is expected to play in Korea from December 1.
