The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported on the preparation for the new school year 2024-2025. Accordingly, the whole city is expected to increase by 24,097 students, including 17,288 public students and 6,809 non-public students.
Specifically, preschool increased by 6,262 students, secondary school increased by 7,022 students, high school increased by 16,999 students, and primary school decreased by 6,185 students.
Previously, in the 2023-2024 school year, the number of students without permanent residence in Ho Chi Minh City was 347,962, accounting for 20.67% of the total number of students in the city.
On average, each year the number of students increases at all levels by about 25,000 students, causing the number of students per class to exceed the prescribed standard (especially at the primary level), the number of students studying 2 sessions/day has decreased, not meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.
Currently, in some districts, many primary schools have a class size of over 45 students, which has somewhat limited management and teaching quality.
In that context, the implementation of school network planning has not been thorough in districts due to lack of clean land funds, many projects have not been implemented due to land being stuck in planning, problems arising in site clearance, lack of funding...
A representative of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that in the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will still ensure that 100% of children living in the area will have enough places to study.
It is expected that in 2024, 23 projects with 476 new classrooms will be put into use with a total investment of more than VND 2,237 billion.
Of which, on September 5, the city put into use 18 projects with 413 new classrooms with a total investment of more than 1,970 billion VND.
From September 5, 2024 to the end of December 2024, the city will continue to put into use 5 projects with 63 new classrooms with a total investment of 267 billion VND.
In addition, in the 2024-2025 school year, 21 districts and Thu Duc City will continue to review the planning for school network development, implement solutions to speed up project implementation, and implement investment plans to strengthen school facilities and equipment, combined with increasing socialization and attracting educational investment resources.
According to the plan, the city will reach a ratio of 296 classrooms per 10,000 school-age population (from 3-18 years old) by the end of 2024.
