On the afternoon of April 1, the Hue City People's Committee announced that the city has just approved a decision to receive non-refundable aid of more than 3.1 billion VND from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to protect the Sao La species and natural ecosystems.
Accordingly, the project aims to enhance the capacity and participation of social organizations in the field of biodiversity conservation, protecting the Sao La species - the animal known as the "Asian Unicorn". At the same time, raise awareness of the community and stakeholders, contributing to the completion of policies on wildlife management and protection.

In addition, the project also contributes to ending illegal wildlife trade and consumption in Hue City, supporting the implementation of the national strategy on biodiversity conservation to 2030, with a vision to 2050.
Previously, the Hue City People's Committee decided to establish the Sao La Nature Reserve with a total area of 19,375.55 hectares (natural forest 18,077.62 hectares; planted forest 6.01 hectares; non-forested area 1,291.92 hectares). Of which, the Sao La Reserve area currently managed is 15,303.39 hectares and the expanded area is 4,072.16 hectares.
The establishment of Sao La Nature Reserve is to protect the natural forest area in the Central Truong Son region with the function of protecting the headwaters of Huong River and Bo River. Aiming to restore and preserve intact ecosystems, other rare species of animals and plants, especially the Sao La population and two ungulate species, the Large-antlered Muntjac and Truong Son Muntjac.
