On April 1, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that after a review, public high schools in the city are capable of providing about 71,000 10th grade seats, accounting for about 80% of the nearly 89,000 students expected to graduate from junior high school in the city this year.
Compared to last year, the total target for public grade 10 this year is expected to be about 6,000 students lower, but the admission rate has increased from 65% last year, due to the decrease in the number of grade 9 students in the city this year.
The determination of the public grade 10 quota is calculated in accordance with the reality of each area. Schools in densely populated areas will be assigned higher quotas to ensure places for students. Schools in suburban areas with a small number of students will be assigned quotas according to demand.
According to Ho Chi Minh City's 2025-2026 school year enrollment plan, 10th grade enrollment will be conducted through both entrance exams and selection.
The entrance exam is applicable to public high schools in the City (the candidates are students graduating from junior high school in Ho Chi Minh City).
The admission form is applied to private schools, continuing education facilities and Thanh An Secondary and High School, Can Gio district (for students who graduated from secondary school at this school).
The Ho Chi Minh City public 10th grade entrance exam will be held on June 6 and 7, with 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. Candidates who wish to enter specialized or integrated 10th grade will take the corresponding additional subject.
Candidates who register for integrated grade 10 and have studied this program since junior high school will not take the integrated subject exam but will use the average score of this subject for admission.
Candidates can register for 3 admission wishes for regular grade 10, 2 admission wishes for specialized grade 10 and 3 admission wishes for integrated grade 10.
From the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will stop enrolling specialized 10th graders in regular schools. Only Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will enroll specialized 10th graders nationwide./.
