On May 10, on the Telegram channel, Chairman of the State Duma (Lower House) of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin said that President Vladimir Putin has submitted to the Russian legislature a candidate for the position of prime minister.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister of the Russian government who just resigned, Mr. Mikhail Mishustin, continues to be chosen by President Putin as the head of the government for the new term.
Mr. Mishustin, 58 years old, has been serving as Prime Minister of Russia since January 16, 2020. On May 7, he and his cabinet resigned to prepare for President Putin to nominate a new government.
The Chairman of the State Duma (lower house) of Russia Volodin said that for the first time in the history of modern Russia, this legislative body will approve the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers. These powers are stipulated in the amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 2020.
“Today, deputies will make a responsible decision on this issue on behalf of their constituents. A new stage of joint work between the legislative and executive powers is coming,” he said, adding that both the government and the State Duma deputies will be held responsible for the outcome.
Discussions on the prime minister candidate will take place across all factions on May 10 and the plenary session will begin at 2:00 p.m. Moscow time (6:00 p.m. Vietnam time).
Mr. Volodin made it clear that the discussion would have to find solutions to the tasks set by President Putin related to demographic and youth policy, supporting families, improving the well-being of citizens, strengthening technological sovereignty, developing the economy and regions, and strengthening Russia's defense capabilities.
Under the new rules, candidates for prime minister, deputy prime minister and most ministers will be approved by the State Duma.
