With the support of the Women's Union of Che Cu Nha commune (Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province), Ms. Ly Thi Ninh established a "Brocade Production Cooperative", gathering Mong women to develop their ethnic traditional brocade products.

Dedicated founder

Growing up next to the linen weaving and indigo dyeing looms in De Thanh village (Che Cu Nha commune), Ms. Ly Thi Ninh always wondered how to preserve the traditional craft while developing the economy. With that desire, Ms. Ninh researched how to

production, finding channels to sell products and boldly investing capital to develop production. With the support of the Commune Women's Union, she mobilized women in the village to establish a local brocade production cooperative.

Sharing with reporters, Ms. Ninh said that in the early days of its establishment in 2019, the Cooperative had 23 members. Many women were self-conscious because they were not fluent in Mandarin, so they had difficulty communicating. "I convinced the women to just participate in production, I would find sales. However, things were more difficult than I thought," Ms. Ninh recalled.

With the encouragement of the Commune Women's Union, Ms. Ly Thi Ninh actively participated in training courses to improve capacity in collective economy, management skills, and operation of cooperatives and cooperative groups managed by women, organized by the Yen Bai Provincial Women's Union.

She also connected with many places to find outlets for the products and received orders to produce according to the samples of partners specializing in brocade products. "At first, the women in the group were not familiar with producing according to orders, but we were determined to research the designs and come up with suitable production methods, thereby overcoming the difficulties," said Ms. Ly Thi Ninh.

Model in "green" product development

Since the Brocade Production Cooperative has been operating stably, it has created jobs and steady income for its members. Ms. Ly Thi Xa, a member of the Cooperative, shared: "Before, I only worked in the fields, and depending on the weather, I sometimes had hunger and sometimes had plenty.

Since joining the Brocade Production Cooperative, I have had more income. The happiest thing is that even on rainy days, when the farming is not done, I have work and income. Many older women who are no longer able to farm can also work at home and have a source of income."

Every year, the Cooperative regularly produces and supplies brocade products to consumers. The number of members in the Cooperative is increasing. Up to now, the Cooperative has 47 members, with an average income of 4-5 million VND/person/month.

Ms. Ho Thi De, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Che Cu Nha Commune, said that from the very beginning, the Women's Union of the Commune has supported the ideas and activities of the Cooperative Group. "We consider this a model in developing "green" products. During the production process, women all use materials such as linen, dyeing indigo from natural materials using manual methods.

This model, in addition to creating locally produced products, also contributes to becoming a local tourism product, imbued with the cultural identity of local ethnic minorities," Ms. Ho Thi De emphasized.

Implement the plan of the Yen Bai Provincial Women's Union on implementing Decision No. 435/QD-UBND dated March 26, 2024 of the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee approving the Project "Supporting cooperatives managed by women, creating jobs for female workers in Yen Bai province by 2030".

The Women's Union of Che Cu Nha commune has organized propaganda and mobilized female members to participate in cooperatives and cooperative groups managed by women in the area in general and the "Brocade Production Cooperative Group" in particular;

Mobilize Ms. Ninh as well as other women participating in the management of cooperatives and cooperative groups in the commune to actively participate in training courses, improve management and operation capacity, and connect product consumption organized by the Association.

In the coming time, the Women's Union of Che Cu Nha commune will continue to have specific guidance and support activities so that the "Brocade Production Cooperative Group" is qualified to convert into a cooperative, improve the quality of goods, meet market demand, create jobs and stable income for local women.
