Artem Dovbyk is playing a crucial role in AS Roma's resurgence. |
The Ukrainian striker's goals have earned the capital club at least 15 points, contributing significantly to Roma's recent impressive run in Serie A. Coach Claudio Ranieri, who has helped the team return to winning ways, has been full of praise for Dovbyk: "We have yet to see his best form. There are still many great things to come."
Dovbyk is different
Dovbyk's start in Serie A was not an easy one. He arrived at Roma with great expectations, bringing with him a host of prestigious honours, including winning the La Liga Golden Boot, beating the likes of Jude Bellingham, Robert Lewandowski, Antoine Griezmann and Vinicius Jr. However, his debut was as challenging as Roma's journey in the early months of the season. Roma changed coaches three times and at one point feared for their survival.
In his first 14 Serie A games, Dovbyk scored just four goals, while Roma were in crisis. However, the turning point came when Claudio Ranieri was appointed head coach.
Under Ranieri, Roma have been transformed. From a team struggling to avoid relegation, Roma have risen from strength to strength and are currently enjoying the best form of any top European team since 2025. They are on a seven-game winning streak and are once again dreaming of a Champions League spot.
Dovbyk has not only settled in quickly but has become an integral part of Roma's squad. He has scored seven goals in his last 12 games, with the striker's accuracy helping Roma secure important victories.
Of the 52 points Roma have won since the start of the season, at least 15 have come from Dovbyk. These goals have helped the team overcome opponents such as Udinese (1-2), Como (2-1), Cagliari (1-0), Lecce (1-0) and draw with Genoa (1-1), Monza (1-1) and Bologna (2-2). Not to mention the magnificent victories over Udinese (3-0) and Genoa (3-1), in which Dovbyk played a key role.
Dovbyk has 16 goals in all competitions in the 2024/25 season. |
Dovbyk revives Roma
Dovbyk's early struggles are slowly becoming a memory. Now he has great support from his teammates, who believe in his potential.
Ranieri has defended Dovbyk in press conferences, insisting that Roma fans have not seen the striker at his best. “We need to look deeper into Dovbyk’s ability, the way he wants to express himself. I asked the team to understand this,” he said.
In addition, coach Ranieri also shared about the difficult situation Dovbyk is facing when his family is still in Ukraine in the context of war. “He wakes up every morning with the worry of not knowing if his relatives are alive or not. We cannot imagine what he is going through. He needs our love and support,” Ranieri confided.
Dovbyk could not hide his emotions after the important victory over Lecce in Serie A round 30 on March 30, when he scored the decisive goal to give Roma all three points. "Everyone supported me, and I tried to give my all for the team. Although it was not easy at first, we kept working and now things are gradually improving," the former Girona striker shared.
With 16 goals this season, including two in the Europa League and three in the Coppa Italia, Dovbyk is writing a success story for Roma. Since 2000, only Tammy Abraham and Borja Mayoral have scored at least 10 goals in their first Serie A season with Roma. These numbers are a clear testament to Dovbyk's talent and remarkable progress, giving Ranieri even more reason to believe in the striker.
Dovbyk is becoming Roma's new hope, and with his current form, no one dares to say anything about his future and the capital team.
