Once a £35 million signing for Liverpool with a salary of £80,000 a week, Andy Carroll now plays in the French fourth division for Bordeaux. Surprisingly, his earnings are even lower than the minimum wage in France.
According to L'Equipe , Carroll only earned 1,614 euros before tax each month, and after tax, his actual income was less than 1,400 euros. Meanwhile, the minimum wage for full-time employees in France is 1,801 euros per month. This means Carroll was classified as a part-time employee at the club.
These modest salaries reflect the reality that Bordeaux's financial situation is very difficult. The six-time Ligue 1 champions were relegated to the fourth division after declaring bankruptcy last year.
Nevertheless, Carroll remains content with his current life. In an interview earlier in the season, he shared: "I'm renting a lovely little house, and my salary isn't even enough to cover the rent. But I clearly didn't come to Bordeaux for the money."

Despite his low salary, Carroll has proven his worth by scoring 8 goals for Bordeaux this season. According to the agreement, he could receive a bonus of 2,000 euros if he reaches 10 goals or assists.
Not only did Carroll's career change, but his personal life also took a new direction. After separating from his wife Billi Mucklow after an 8-year engagement, Carroll dated renowned makeup artist Lou Teasdale.
The couple publicly revealed their relationship around Christmas and frequently shared romantic moments. Carroll once disclosed that Lou's kind heart and concern for the community made him feel she was the person he needed in his life.
Marseille are doing quite well, currently sitting in 3rd place in the French fourth division, 5 and 6 points behind the top two teams respectively after 24 rounds.
