Domestic coffee prices on March 27, 2025 showed a uniform downward trend in key markets in the Central Highlands, including Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai and Dak Nong, with an average decrease of VND 2,000/kg compared to the previous period. This decrease, although not too large, may reflect pressure from increased supply or slowing international market demand, especially when world gold prices are increasing sharply (over 3,000 USD/ounce), causing investors to shift to other safe assets.

Meanwhile, pepper prices remained stable at VND159,000/kg, unchanged, indicating that the pepper market is in a phase of supply-demand balance, possibly due to the lack of significant fluctuations in global output and consumption demand. The USD/VND exchange rate decreased slightly by VND20 to VND25,390, according to Vietcombank, which could affect the export value of coffee and pepper, which are heavily dependent on the international market.

Overall, this development shows a differentiation between agricultural products, with coffee under pressure to decrease in price while pepper maintains its performance, in the context of the exchange rate tending to cool down slightly on March 27, 2025.

Robusta coffee prices traded on the London Exchange for the period from May 25 to November 25 showed a significant downward trend in the latest trading session. The matched price of the 05/25 period decreased the most, down to 5,437 USD/ton, down 154 USD/ton (-2.75%), with the highest level reaching 5,600 USD/ton (up 9 USD) and the lowest level reaching 5,431 USD/ton (down 160 USD), accompanied by a fairly large trading volume of 9,281 contracts and 31,652 open contracts.

The 07/25 term also decreased by 136 USD/ton (-2.44%) to 5,443 USD/ton, with a trading volume of 9,366 contracts, with a high of 5,585 USD/ton (up 6 USD) and a low of 5,436 USD/ton (down 143 USD). The further terms such as 09/25 and 11/25 decreased by 126 USD/ton (-2.28%) to 5,407 USD/ton and 123 USD/ton (-2.26%) to 5,324 USD/ton, respectively, with a decreasing trading volume (2,639 and 340 contracts), indicating that investors' interest is mainly focused on the near-term terms.

This downward trend may be related to pressure from increased global supply or slowing demand for Robusta coffee, while the intraday high-low price fluctuations indicate that the market is being affected by a sell-off sentiment. This development is similar to the domestic coffee price decrease of VND 2,000/kg, reinforcing the close connection between the international and domestic markets on March 27, 2025.

Arabica coffee prices traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange for the period from May 25 to December 25 showed a uniform downward trend in the latest trading session. The 05/25 futures contract decreased by 6.55 US cents/lb (-1.64%) to 392.00 US cents/lb, with a high of 405.40 US cents/lb (up 6.85) and a low of 388.55 US cents/lb (down 10.00), accompanied by a large trading volume of 14,383 contracts and 71,628 open contracts.

The 07/25 term recorded the sharpest decline in terms of rates, down to 386.15 US cents/lb, down 6.50 US cents/lb (-1.66%), with a high of 398.55 US cents/lb (up 5.90) and a low of 382.90 US cents/lb (down 9.75%), with a trading volume of 10,664 contracts. The further maturities such as 09/25 and 12/25 decreased by 5.95 US cents/lb (-1.54%) to 380.50 US cents/lb and 5.10 US cents/lb (-1.35%) to 372.30 US cents/lb, respectively, with trading volumes gradually decreasing (5,542 and 3,768 contracts), indicating that investors' interest is focused on the nearer maturities.

This downward trend, although milder than that of London Robusta (down 2.26% - 2.75%), may stem from supply pressure or weakening global demand for Arabica coffee. Intraday price movements, with a slight increase in the highest level but a sharp decrease in the lowest level, indicate that the market is under significant selling pressure on March 27, 2025, and also reflects the similarity with the downward trend of domestic coffee prices (VND 2,000/kg).

Coffee price forecast for tomorrow, March 28, 2025 has optimistic signals

Coffee prices on March 28, 2025 in the domestic market are expected to increase slightly, fluctuating between 119,000 - 120,500 VND/kg, based on the world coffee price trend and domestic supply and demand situation. Specifically, in key Central Highlands provinces such as Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, coffee prices may reach 120,500 VND/kg, an increase of about 500 - 1,000 VND/kg compared to March 27, 2025, thanks to the influence of Robusta prices on the London floor (currently, the 05/25 term has decreased to 5,437 USD/ton but there are signs of recovery).

In Lam Dong, coffee prices are expected to fluctuate around VND119,000/kg, a slight increase of VND500/kg due to stable purchasing demand. In the international market, Robusta coffee futures prices for May 25 may fluctuate around USD5,450 - 5,500/ton, while Arabica futures prices for May 25 in New York are expected to remain around USD390 - 395/lb, affected by weather fluctuations in Brazil and global consumption demand.

This uptrend is supported by concerns about tight supplies from Vietnam and Brazil, although selling pressure from near-term futures may cause prices to fluctuate slightly on March 28, 2025.
