EVN said that in the last days of May 2024, the intense hot and humid weather that recurred in many areas of all three regions caused the national electricity consumption to increase to a record high.

According to data from the National Power System Dispatch Center (A0), although the peak capacity of the entire system as of May 28 has not surpassed the peak of late April (47,670 MW, which is also the historical peak to date), the national electricity consumption on May 28, 2024 reached a new record peak of 1.0019 billion hWh.

This is the first time in history that national electricity consumption has exceeded 1 billion kWh/day. Previously, EVN predicted that the country's 1 billion kWh/day consumption milestone would be reached in June 2024.

Also on May 28, the largest capacity of the day reached 45,450.8 MW at 2:00 p.m.

According to EVN, the North has been quite hot in recent days but it has not yet reached its peak. Electricity consumption in the North has also increased in both capacity and output but has not yet surpassed the old peak. Electricity consumption in the North is forecast to continue to increase, increasing pressure on electricity supply in the coming time.

To ensure electricity supply during the hot season of 2024, EVN hopes that people and customers will use electricity economically, especially during peak hours (from 11am to 3pm and from 7pm to 11pm).

In particular, pay special attention to using air conditioning reasonably, only turn on the air conditioner when really necessary, set the temperature at 26-27 degrees Celsius or higher; do not use many high-capacity electrical devices at the same time during peak hours.

Also according to the EVN representative, to ensure electricity supply in 2024 and the following years as directed by the Prime Minister, the Group and its units have been synchronously implementing solutions on optimal operation of the power system and electricity market, increasing electricity import, accelerating construction investment progress, and encouraging customers to use electricity economically and efficiently.

A0 has established methods and operated the power system and electricity market in an optimal manner; built power supply scenarios, updated information on power production, load demand, and hydrological developments to proactively establish and adjust power system operation plans.

EVN also directed corporations and power companies to closely coordinate with localities to implement electricity saving programs and solutions according to Directive 20/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister.

EVN said it has been resolutely implementing tasks and solutions to invest in and build projects under the direction of the Prime Minister to ensure the progress of key power source and grid projects, including striving to complete the 500 kV line 3 Quang Trach - Pho Noi as required by the Prime Minister.
