According to the decision of the Minister of Education and Training, Professor Nguyen Tien Thao will hold the position of Director of the Department of Higher Education for 5 years.

Prior to this position, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao was Deputy Director of the Institute of Digital Training and Testing, Hanoi National University. Previously, he was Director of the Hanoi National University Testing Center - the unit that organizes the High School Student Assessment (HSA) exam.

Mr. Thao has also held many management positions such as: Deputy Head of Chemistry Department, University of Science - Vietnam National University, Hanoi from 2013 to 2015; Deputy Head of Training Department, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Mr. Thao replaces his predecessor, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - who was also transferred and appointed to the position of Director of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Education and Training) in early March.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao, born in 1977, was awarded the title of professor in 2015. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry in 1999 from the University of Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. He then completed his doctoral program at Laval University, Canada, majoring in Chemical Engineering in 2007. In the next phase, he continued his postdoctoral research at the Georgia Institute of Technology (GaTech), USA from 2008 to 2010.
