With savings of nearly VND4,000 billion from contingency and bidding costs, ACV proposed investing in an additional runway at Long Thanh airport in phase 1.
Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) said today (November 15) that during the implementation of the Long Thanh airport component project 3, the unit saved nearly 4,000 billion VND, including contingency and bidding costs.
With this savings, ACV proposed investing in an additional runway at Long Thanh airport in phase 1.
According to ACV, the construction of a second runway is necessary to meet the growing air transport demand of the southern region.
Explaining this proposal, ACV said that building a second runway from the beginning will help ensure continuous operations, avoiding disruptions when additional ones are needed later. In addition, having an additional runway will help Long Thanh airport support Tan Son Nhat airport in case of an incident. With the forecast of air transport demand in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces reaching about 71 million passengers by 2030, Long Thanh airport having only one runway will pose many risks such as overloading, flight delays, and even flight cancellations in case of an incident.
In addition, the construction of runway number 2 at Long Thanh airport aims to ensure synchronous operations, without interruption due to the need to connect infrastructure and technical control systems, improve efficiency and avoid waste...
