Unbelievable scene at the upstream of Luong stream, all rocks - Photo: DOAN CUONG
Although it is only March, Luong stream (Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang) has very little water. Standing from the bridge across the stream looking downstream, all you can see is a vast expanse of rocks, with very little water flowing in. "The water flows in small drops, so business and welcoming tourists to experience bathing in the stream are very difficult," said an employee of a tourist attraction here.
Going upstream, the scene of the stream is hard to imagine. Looking up from under the bridge on the southern approach road to Hai Van tunnel, all you can see is rocks. Huge "orphaned" rocks block the stream, along with sand, gravel, and small rocks that completely cover the stream bed. In many landslides, trees also block the stream.
There are also small streams of water flowing downstream through the rocks, but they are very small…

The People's Committee of Hoa Hiep Bac Ward said that Luong stream is in its primeval state with a length of more than 15km. Every year, the stream provides millions of cubic meters of water to people downstream to serve agricultural production and daily life as well as forest fire prevention and fighting.
Not only that, the stream also plays a very important role in regulating the climate of sub-zone 4A of Nam Hai Van forest, providing a habitat for animals, plants...
Over time, under the influence of weather conditions (compared to the current state about 30 years ago), Luong stream has changed a lot.
In winter (from about October to December) water in this area is quite abundant.
In the summer (peak from April to September) the amount of water in the area is very low, there are dry months.
Especially after two historic floods in 2022 and 2023, a huge amount of landslides and rocks poured down Luong stream, making the stream look like a rock field. The drought situation is even more severe.
"The prolonged situation will lead to the risk of water shortage for people's daily life, and the ecological environment in the area will also have negative changes" - the leader of Hoa Hiep Bac Ward People's Committee added.
