Na Meo International Border Gate, Na Meo Commune, Quan Son District is the only international border gate of Thanh Hoa Province - where the main trading activities take place between Vietnam in general and Thanh Hoa Province in particular with the Northern Lao provinces. Here, trading activities, goods exchange, immigration, import and export of people, especially ethnic minorities in the border areas of Thanh Hoa - Hua Phan provinces take place vigorously. On average, every year, there are about 20,000 to 30,000 people entering and exiting the country, exchanging goods, cooperating in business and exchanging feelings.

Doi Village is located right next to the Na Meo - Nam Xoi border gate, so it is very convenient for people to travel, exchange, buy and sell goods and visit relatives in Na Meo Village. In the process of buying and selling daily goods, we are facilitated by the authorities on both sides of the border gate".

Through the border gate, the trade of goods, exchanges, and convenience for people's business, up to now the income of the commune is higher year after year".
Due to the increasing flow of people and goods through Na Meo International Border Gate, the functional forces at the border gate have increased coordination, improved immigration control, promoted administrative reform and applied information technology in professional activities, creating favorable conditions for people and businesses to carry out procedures through the border gate conveniently and quickly.

Mr. Vo Ba Quang, Son Vu Construction Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company, Thanh Hoa city shared: " Our business regularly transports goods through the border gate. Coming here, agencies such as customs, border guards, and quarantine have created many favorable conditions for businesses. And especially recently, there have been instructions for businesses to declare electronically, which helps speed up the time to go through the border gate."

In particular, in order to facilitate trade at the border gate, contributing to promoting socio-economic development cooperation between the two provinces of Thanh Hoa - Hua Phan and the two districts of Quan Son - Vieng Xay, the local authorities on both sides of the border pay great attention to ensuring national defense and security, maintaining social order and safety, coordinating the fight against crime, and jointly building a peaceful and friendly border. Accordingly, the functional forces of the two provinces have strengthened inspection, control, coordinated information exchange, grasped the situation, and effectively fought against illegal entry and exit, smuggling, and trade fraud in the border area. Thanks to that, a stable environment has been created, attracting many tourists, businesses investing in trade development, and people to clear customs through the border gate. In 2023, Na Meo International Border Gate completed entry and exit procedures for nearly 37,000 people and nearly 9,000 vehicles; the total value of bilateral import and export turnover reached more than 42.5 million USD, of which the export value reached more than 30 million USD; the import value reached over 12.5 million USD.

In addition, we strengthen coordination to closely monitor and inspect those who take advantage of the border gate so as not to affect border security."

In order to exploit the potential and value of Na Meo International Border Gate, in recent times, Quan Son district has also paid attention to planning for trade and service development, calling for investment in the district, creating favorable conditions for businesses to invest and do business. At the same time, the district also focuses on mobilizing resources to invest in upgrading traffic infrastructure, commercial infrastructure, serving people's lives and developing the economy.

Second, we are renovating existing service facilities such as Na Meo market and commercial service stores to attract tourists to the border gate, which is also a condition for developing commercial services in this area."

The exploitation and promotion of the role of Na Meo international border gate has made an important contribution to the development of Thanh Hoa province, both in terms of economy, cultural exchange, and ensuring national defense and security. Along with the investment attention of authorities at all levels in the coming time, it will create opportunities for this place to become a gateway for economic and cultural trade, contributing to further deepening the friendly cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Laos, and Thanh Hoa and Hua Phan provinces.
