Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agrees to 7 days off for Lunar New Year 2024
Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will be off from Thursday, February 8, 2024 to Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (ie December 29, Quy Mao year to January 5, Giap Thin year).
With this plan, on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2024, civil servants and public employees will have 7 days off (including 5 days off for Lunar New Year and 2 days off in lieu of weekly days off as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code).
The Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to notify administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations, enterprises and workers about the Lunar New Year holiday.
Previously, after consulting with ministries and agencies on the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday plan and receiving high consensus, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs submitted two 2024 Lunar New Year holiday plans.
Option 1, 2 days off before Tet, civil servants and public employees will be off from Thursday, February 8, 2024 to Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (ie December 29, Quy Mao year to January 5, Giap Thin year).
Option 2: 1 day off before Tet, civil servants and public employees will be off from Friday, February 9, 2024 to Thursday, February 15, 2024 (ie December 30, Quy Mao year to January 6, Giap Thin year).
With this plan, during the Lunar New Year holiday, civil servants and public employees will also have 7 days off (including 5 days off for Tet and 2 days off in lieu of weekly days off, according to the provisions of the Labor Code).
According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, both options have the same number of days off, but the option of 2 days off before Tet and 3 days off after Tet ensures harmony between the time off before and after Tet and is agreed upon by all relevant ministries and agencies.
For employees in enterprises, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said that based on actual conditions and the holiday schedule applicable to civil servants and public employees, employers will arrange the Lunar New Year holiday schedule. The State encourages enterprises to apply the same holiday schedule for employees as for civil servants.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs encourages employers to apply the Lunar New Year holiday for employees as prescribed for civil servants and public employees. Employers must notify employees of the holiday plan at least 30 days in advance.
Regarding the National Day holiday plan on September 2, the Prime Minister agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
