(NLDO) - As planned, candidates taking the 10th grade exam in the 2025-2026 school year can register for a maximum of 8 wishes.

Speaking to a reporter from the Lao Dong Newspaper on the morning of March 11, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the draft plan for 10th grade enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year is being consulted with districts, towns, and the Department of Education and Training. Once completed, the draft will be submitted to the city for consideration, approval, and issuance of the enrollment plan for the first level in March 2025.

According to Mr. Ho Tan Minh, the draft on the 10th grade enrollment plan for the 2025-2026 school year of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training expects candidates to be able to register a maximum of 8 wishes, including 3 regular 10th grade wishes, 2 specialized 10th grade wishes and 3 integrated 10th grade wishes.

Admission is carried out in 2 forms:

- Entrance exam: Applicable to public high schools in the area, organized according to the instructions of the department.

- Admission: Private schools, GDTX; Thanh An Secondary and High School, Can Gio district (only for students who graduated from secondary school at this school in the 2024-2025 school year).

The selection process is carried out in 2 stages:

Phase 1: Students register for 3 priority wishes 1, 2, 3 to take the entrance exam for grade 10 at public high schools - except for 2 specialized schools: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted. As for the Gifted High School (VNU-HCMC), it follows a separate admission plan.

Phase 2: Depending on the actual application situation at high schools and the needs of the schools, the Department of Education and Training will decide on additional enrollment and issue written instructions to ensure the rights of candidates, on the basis of recruiting enough students for schools that still have many shortages.

Candidates will take 3 essay tests, including math, literature (test time 120 minutes/subject) and foreign language (foreign language 1 being studied at school, test time 90 minutes).

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7.

Candidates registering for the entrance exam to specialized high schools must take the fourth subject (specialized subject) with a duration of 150 minutes/subject. Each specialized subject has its own exam according to the secondary school curriculum, the content ensures the selection of students with talent in that subject.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the rate of students entering public grade 10 in 2025 will be higher than the previous school year, specifically increasing by at least 5%-10% compared to the previous year, ranging from 70%-80%.

Data from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training shows that last school year, the number of junior high school graduates was 116,296, of whom nearly 100,000 took the public 10th grade entrance exam. This year, the city expects to have 89,649 junior high school graduates, of whom 88,921 will be from the junior high school program and 728 from the supplementary program.

With the above data, the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to reduce by more than 26,000 candidates.
