Establishment of the 34th Army Corps

On the morning of December 15, in Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province, the Party Committee and Command of the 34th Corps held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish the Corps. General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense attended and delivered a speech.

Attending the ceremony were members of the Central Military Commission: Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense.

On the side of the 34th Corps, there were comrades: Major General Nguyen Ba Luc, Corps Commander; Major General Le Minh Quang, Corps Political Commissar, along with comrades in the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Command of the 34th Corps; leaders and commanders of agencies, units, schools and representatives of departments and offices of the 34th Corps.

At the ceremony, delegates heard the announcement of Decision No. 5901/QD-BQP, dated December 7, 2024 of the Minister of National Defense on the dissolution of Army Corps 3 and Decision No. 5902/QD-BQP, dated December 7, 2024 of the Minister of National Defense on the dissolution of Army Corps 4.

The Party Committee and Command of the 34th Corps announced Decision No. 5989/QD-BQP, dated December 10, 2024 of the Minister of National Defense on the establishment of the 34th Corps.

The 34th Corps was established on the basis of the 3rd Corps - Tay Nguyen Corps and the 4th Corps - Cuu Long Corps, which are units with a long history and glorious traditions.

During the resistance war against the US, to save and protect the Fatherland, and to carry out international missions, Army Corps 3 and Army Corps 4 achieved many outstanding feats of arms and were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State.

Army Corps 3 has 81 groups and 47 individuals; Army Corps 4 has 83 groups and 51 individuals awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, including many groups awarded this noble title for the second and third time.

In recent years, officers and soldiers of the 3rd and 4th Corps have promoted the glorious tradition of the nation and the Army, united and creatively carried out military and defense tasks, constantly innovated training, education and training, improved combat readiness, built a Party organization that excellently completed typical tasks, and a strong, comprehensive unit that is "exemplary and typical".

At the ceremony, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, presented the Quyet Thang Military Flag to the 34th Army Corps and delivered a directive speech.

General Phan Van Giang emphasized: The dissolution of the 3rd and 4th Corps and the establishment of the 34th Corps is a major policy, a very important event, marking the maturity and development of our Army, a step to concretize the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress on building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and gradually modern Army, with a number of military services, arms, and forces advancing straight to modernity, by 2025 basically building an elite, compact, and strong Army, creating a solid foundation, striving to build a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern People's Army by 2030.

The 34th Corps is a Corps organized in the direction of being lean, compact, strong, and advancing towards modernity. The Corps' scale and force organization will be larger; its functions and tasks will be supplemented with heavier ones; it will be equipped with more modern weapons and vehicles; with a new arrangement. The Corps must undertake the task of launching medium-scale campaigns and defeating all new forms of enemy combat in the future.

The 34th Corps has been entrusted by the Party, the State, the people, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense with the Victory Flag, the flag symbolizing the tradition of "Determination to fight, Determination to win" of the heroic Vietnam People's Army. Therefore, the Corps, first of all, the Party Committees and commanders at all levels must fully and correctly perceive the position and significance of the Corps' establishment, its functions, requirements, and tasks in the immediate and long term, clearly determine the determination, overcome difficulties, and successfully complete political tasks, and build a strong, comprehensive, "exemplary, typical" unit right from the first day, the first week, and the first month.

Quickly stabilize the organization and staff; do a good job of ideological and policy work; develop and promulgate regulations and rules on each aspect of work; supplement and perfect combat plans; strictly maintain regularity, comply with laws, discipline, regimes and regulations, and be highly combat ready.

Carry out logistics, technical and financial work well; build a truly clean and strong Party Committee of the Corps; take care to build a team of cadres and employees, build high solidarity and unity in the Party Committee and command; unite the army and people, resolve well the relationships in the work, create a combined strength, and excellently complete all tasks.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Ba Luc, Commander of the 34th Corps, affirmed that the establishment of the 34th Corps marked the development, maturity and growth of our Army in general and the Corps in particular in the new revolutionary period. This is a major policy, demonstrating the thinking, strategic vision, correct and timely decisions of the Politburo, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense in leading, directing, building, organizing forces, deploying, and being ready to defeat all forms of aggressive war in the future.
