On the afternoon of January 16, the Hai Phong City People's Committee held a conference to announce the decision to establish the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone. Attending the conference were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, leaders of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Construction, and leaders of Hai Phong City.
This is a particularly important event, marking a turning point in the development process of Hai Phong, opening up new development space and growth momentum.
From there, we aim to build Hai Phong into a smart, modern and sustainably developed seaport city, worthy of regional and international stature in the spirit of Resolution 45 of the Politburo.
The establishment of the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone is a strategic decision, aiming to concretize the goals and tasks set out in Resolution 45 of the Politburo.

According to the establishment decision, the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone has a scale of 20,000 hectares, of which more than 2,900 hectares are reclaimed land.
This economic zone is oriented to be a multi-industry, international economic zone, with development pillars being high-tech industry, modern logistics services, smart urban areas, eco-tourism and a pilot free trade zone.
This is not only a new economic growth driver but also the basis for Hai Phong to affirm its position as a maritime economic center, an international logistics service center, an important growth pole of the region and the whole country.
The establishment of the Economic Zone will create conditions for the city to pilot new policy mechanisms, create an open and favorable investment environment, and attract resources from within and outside the country.
By 2030, the Southern Coastal Economic Zone of Hai Phong will become the main driving force of the city’s economy, equivalent to 80% of the capacity of Dinh Vu – Cat Hai Economic Zone. At the same time, it will play a particularly important role in connecting with neighboring economic zones, forming a chain of coastal economic zones.
In addition, the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone is also expected to contribute VND550,000 billion to the budget and create 301,000 jobs.

Mr. Le Trung Kien - Head of Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board - informed that Hai Phong is in the group of leading localities in attracting FDI. Up to now, Hai Phong has attracted 1,000 foreign direct investment projects from 42 countries and territories with a total capital of 32.6 billion USD and 231 domestic investment projects with a capital of 13.7 billion USD.
The projects mainly focus on the manufacturing and processing industry in industrial parks and Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone.
Specifically, FDI capital in Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone is about 22.9 billion USD, accounting for more than 80% of the city's total FDI capital. The occupancy rate of industrial parks is currently up to 64.3%, the average investment per hectare in Hai Phong is about 12 million USD/ha, more than 3 times the national average.
