Thanh Hoa strives to cover the entire depression with telecommunications by 2025
Thanh Hoa aims to leave no one behind.
In Thanh Hoa, one of the provinces with a large area and diverse terrain from plains, midlands to mountains, ensuring comprehensive telecommunications coverage faces many challenges. According to the Department of Information and Communications of Thanh Hoa province, the province has currently covered 1,732/1,850 villages, while 118 villages have not been connected to telecommunications. These villages are mainly located in remote areas such as Quan Son, Quan Hoa, Muong Lat, Ba Thuoc - where the terrain is rugged, the population is sparse and infrastructure conditions are poor.
To address this issue, Thanh Hoa has developed a detailed plan with the goal of completing full coverage by 2025. Accordingly, the province will focus on mobilizing resources and coordinating with major telecommunications companies such as Viettel, VNPT, and MobiFone to deploy mobile base transceiver stations (BTS) in areas without signal. At the same time, advanced technologies such as VSAT (satellite communications) will be applied in areas with complex terrain where fiber optic cables cannot be pulled.
Inter-sectoral coordination to ensure telecommunications infrastructure
One of the biggest challenges to telecommunications coverage in low-lying areas is the lack of electricity infrastructure. Currently, there are still 124 villages nationwide without electricity, of which 32 are in Thanh Hoa. The Ministry of Information and Communications is committed to working closely with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity Group and local authorities to implement the principle of "where electricity goes, telecommunications go there." Stable electricity supply will be a prerequisite to ensure effective operation of telecommunications equipment, helping people access modern services.
In addition, the Vietnam Public Service Telecommunication Fund will continue to provide financial support to reduce the financial burden on telecommunications businesses when deploying in difficult areas. From 2021 to 2023, the fund has allocated more than VND500 billion to support telecommunications projects nationwide, of which Thanh Hoa received an investment of VND45 billion to build BTS stations and deploy fiber optic cables.
Long-term benefits from telecommunications coverage
Ensuring coverage of all low-lying areas not only brings information connectivity to people but also makes an important contribution to socio-economic development, improving the quality of life and promoting digital transformation. When telecommunications are covered, people in remote villages will have the opportunity to access remote medical services, online education and market information, thereby improving their income and life.
For Thanh Hoa, this goal also has strategic significance in narrowing the gap between regions, promoting community tourism, preserving and promoting indigenous culture through modern communication channels.
Determined to complete before 2025
Thanh Hoa authorities are committed to mobilizing all resources and enhancing coordination between departments, localities and telecommunications enterprises to complete the target ahead of schedule. Programs to promote and encourage people to use telecommunications services will be promoted, contributing to improving implementation efficiency.
Comprehensive coverage of the low-lying areas is not only the responsibility of the government and the telecommunications industry, but also demonstrates the spirit of "leaving no one behind" in the socio-economic development strategy of Thanh Hoa and the whole country. This success will be a big step forward, affirming Thanh Hoa's position in the national digital transformation./.
