The Institute of Marine Engineering (under the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources) said that in November, the Mekong Delta region faced high tides exceeding the third warning level for many days. The peak tides usually occur between 00:00 and 14:00 and 17:00 in the eastern region and between 3:00 and 8:00 in the western region.

The highest tide level of the day at Ben Luc station (Long An) continuously exceeded alarm level III from November 1-15 by 10-31cm.

The highest tide level of the day exceeded the alarm level III for many days from November 4-6 and November 15 at Dai Ngai station (Long Phu district, Soc Trang). From November 4-6 and November 13-15 at Ganh Hao station (Bac Lieu), the highest tide level of the day also exceeded the alarm level III.

On November 15, the areas of Hoa Binh (Go Cong Tay area, Tien Giang), Tra Vinh, Vam Kenh (Go Cong Dong, Tien Giang), Ben Trai (Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre) all had the highest tide level of the day exceeding alert level III.

In the western regions, the highest tide level of the day exceeded alarm levels I, II, and III for many days. At Song Doc station (Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau), the highest tide level of the day exceeded alarm level III by 3-13cm on November 3-10 and November 15.

At Nam Can station (Ngoc Hien district, Ca Mau), the highest tide level of the day exceeded alert level III by 3-6cm on November 5-7 and November 15. Particularly at Ca Mau station, the highest tide level of the day continuously exceeded alert level III from November 1-15 by 3-20cm.

According to the forecasting agency, in November 2024, the Southeast region will have the highest daily tide level exceeding alarm levels I, II, III for many days and usually appear around 4-10pm and 1-6am.

From November 1 to 15, the highest tide level of the day in Ho Chi Minh City exceeded the alarm levels I, II, and III for many days. Especially on November 2-4 and November 12-15, at Phu An station (Saigon River), the highest tide level of the day exceeded the alarm level III by 1-7cm. This situation also occurred on November 3 and November 14-15 at Nha Be station (Dong Dien canal).

The highest tide level of the day at Thu Dau Mot station (Binh Duong) continuously exceeded alarm levels II and III for many consecutive days from November 1 to 15. Especially from November 1 to 6 and November 11 to 15, the highest tide level of the day exceeded alarm level III by 1-11cm.

The highest tide level of the day at Bien Hoa station (Dong Nai) continuously exceeded alarm levels I by 3-20cm on November 1-15 (except November 9).

The Institute of Marine Engineering assessed that, in general, during the first 15 days of November 2024, the tidal water level in the Mekong Delta and Southeast regions was not as high as the high tide at the end of October, but still exceeded alarm levels I, II, and III for many days.

In particular, according to the forecast in November 2024, because ENSO is likely to transition to La Nina state with a probability of 60-70% in the final period of the year, the frequency of storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea and their impact on the mainland of our country is likely to be higher than the average of many years. This impact combined with high tides is likely to cause flooding in many places.

Therefore, during the period from November 1-15 (especially November 2-6 and November 14-15), localities in the Mekong Delta and Southeast should pay attention to the proper operation of irrigation works, especially coastal sluice systems and river mouths.

It is necessary to reinforce dykes and embankments (if any) to prevent flooding according to the warning levels and the level of impact of storms (if any). At the same time, promptly inform people about high tide times and the risk of flooding, the impact of storms, and provide instructions on response measures to minimize damage.
