Relive the heroic moments

Việt NamViệt Nam01/04/2025

The entire Vietnamese people are jubilantly preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country with many joyful activities. I also have my own way of celebrating when I visit the exhibition booth at Yen Bai Museum - a place that preserves images and precious relics of a painful but also very heroic period of the Yen Bai army and people in the resistance war against the US to save the country.

Yen Bai Museum attracts a large number of visitors.

My hometown Yen Bai was both a great rear base, providing human and material support to the great front line and directly fighting the American invaders right in the sky of my homeland when they used the air force to bomb key targets such as: the Thac Ba Hydroelectric Plant construction site; the Hanoi - Yen Bai - Lao Cai railway; the Z183 Factory... and our army and people carried out the encirclement and capture of commando groups when they parachuted into Tran Yen, Van Yen in order to carry out their sabotage plots... All are shown through images and artifacts that historians have painstakingly collected, preserved, and displayed for today's and future generations.

Yen Bai is truly the "great rear" of the "great frontline" when it has contributed 290,000 tons of food, 150,000 tons of provisions; sent off nearly 25,000 young men to join the army; of which, there are 4 battalions named Yen Ninh participating in the fight across the battlefields of the South. The image of a Tay ethnic woman, Cam Nhan commune, Yen Binh district with her 2 young children participating in the "For the South" Movement is truly touching. The image of the farewell ceremony for young men to join the army to fight in the South has the participation of comrade Nguyen Ngoc Cu - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

In particular, the book "Letter of determination" has collected the volunteer applications to join the army in 1967 of the soldiers of Yen Ninh Battalion 1 with simple words, presented simply but we still feel the enthusiastic spirit, putting aside many dreams of youth, leaving behind the homeland of the old mother, the young brother and even the girlfriends to bravely go to the South to fight of the children of Yen Bai in the Yen Ninh battalions and they have achieved great feats in Ap Bac, Bau Bang, Binh Gia... Together with the people of the whole country, the people of all ethnic groups of Yen Bai have upheld the spirit of "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom" as stated by President Ho Chi Minh.

The American invaders escalated their attacks on the North, including Yen Bai, and caused countless human and material losses. The photos of Ward 3, Yen Bai Town, and Yen Bai Station after the American bombings, which reporters managed to capture while the smoke was still burning, were truly evidence of the cruelty of the invading imperialists. In that context, the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee focused on leading the people to restore the economy, constantly strengthen and consolidate national defense, build an increasingly strong militia and self-defense force, with 32,880 people; improve all aspects of the local armed forces, and build and consolidate an increasingly strong rear.

In key areas, in addition to the main force, the province has organized 90 combat positions of the militia and self-defense force. While fighting against the destructive war of the American invaders and building and consolidating the rear, with the tradition of solidarity and steadfastness in fighting against foreign invaders, the army and people of Yen Bai have won many great victories. The armed forces won right from the first battle and shot down a total of 99 aircraft of various types of the American imperialists, capturing many enemy pilots. Images of the Thac Ba self-defense force; Ha Lao Locomotive Enterprise; militia of Van Chan, Tran Yen, Van Yen districts next to anti-aircraft artillery positions; many women or the elderly go to the fields to plant rice, plow but still carry rifles on their shoulders to be ready to fight...

In the exhibition room of Yen Bai Museum, there is a solemnly hung flag embroidered with the words "Determination to defeat the American invaders" and signed by Uncle Ho. It is known that this is the flag that President Ho Chi Minh awarded to the provinces that had achieved the feat of shooting down American planes; in which, Yen Bai province was honored to be named 8 times. The flag has been stained with time, but Yen Bai is the province that has been honored the most times), making viewers unable to hide their pride in the heroic homeland of Yen Bai in the midst of fire and bullets.

Visitors to Yen Bai Museum always stop to take a photo with the Mic 21 aircraft - the "silver swallow" that Hero Pham Tuan piloted to take off from Yen Bai airport to shoot down the B.52 bomber - a state-of-the-art weapon that the US President once declared "inviolable"; through this, we can see more clearly the bravery and intelligence of Vietnam as well as the strategic position of Yen Bai in the cause of defending the Fatherland.

There are many other images and memorabilia at the Yen Bai Museum's exhibition booth such as: cargo loading and unloading at Yen Bai river port; pilot helmets collected in Vu Linh commune, Yen Binh district; the wreckage of an F105 plane shot down in Viet Cuong commune; the trial of commandos captured in Dong Song, Kien Thanh commune, Tran Yen district; farewell ceremonies for young men joining the army; Party and State leaders talking with Yen Bai soldiers and militiamen... that this article cannot mention all.

Please stop by the large photo of the Rally to celebrate the complete liberation of the South, which took place on May 15, 1975 at Km7 Stadium, Yen Bai Town. Tens of thousands of people with flags, flowers, and banners are immersing themselves in the joy of victory, the country is at peace, the country is one. 50 springs have passed, but the echoes of those glorious victories are still a great spiritual motivation to encourage and motivate the people of all ethnic groups in Yen Bai province to join hands, be united, unite, strive to compete, work, study, and contribute to building a Yen Bai that is "Green, harmonious, unique, and happy".
