Ho Chi Minh City ensures convenient enrollment for first and sixth graders to study near their residence.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year will be based on three factors: local school allocation, the number of children of enrollment age, and current student residence information. Therefore, the Department of Education and Training in Ho Chi Minh City will advise the People's Committee of Thu Duc City and districts to determine and optimize enrollment areas. This will not only help reduce overcrowding at some schools but also create opportunities for students to access education near their homes.

In addition, units will combine the use of the city's shared digital map system to calculate students' travel distance.

The allocation of study places will not follow the administrative boundaries of wards, in order to create conditions for students to study near their current residence and in accordance with the actual local situation.

In particular, for some schools located on the border between localities, districts will develop appropriate admission plans for the first level, creating favorable conditions for students to study near their place of residence.

For first grade admission, determining priority subjects is very important. Students who live in the area and are within the prescribed age will be given priority in admission to primary schools near their homes. This not only helps children study near their place of residence but also makes it easier for parents to take their children to school every day. In addition, schools will also have policies specifically for students with difficult circumstances but still wish to study at public schools.

Similar to grade 1, grade 6 admission also has its own regulations on priority subjects. Students who live in the area and have completed primary school will have the opportunity to be considered for admission to junior high schools near their place of residence.

Units will also consider special cases such as students wishing to study at specialized schools or schools with special programs.
