On September 13, the Tehran Times reported that the three victims, including an officer named Amin Narouei and two conscripts, were refueling at a fuel station in Mirjaveh County when they were attacked by a group of “unidentified armed men.”
Civilians were also injured at the scene of the attack. Iranian authorities immediately opened a criminal case, while the country's intelligence services launched an investigation to identify the gunmen.
In a statement released late on September 12, Jaish al-Zulm, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Iran, admitted to carrying out the attack. In recent years, Jaish al-Zulm has participated in many attacks targeting Iranian security forces and civilians.
Speaking about the incident, Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref stressed the importance of taking proactive measures to prevent such attacks from happening again, including strengthening border security.
He also instructed the Interior Minister to mobilize all security resources to quickly arrest and bring the attackers to justice.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Iran's IRNA news agency reported that the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations (UN), Ambassador Amir Saeed Irvani, sent a letter to the world's largest international organization to inform about the above terrorist attack.
In the letter, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemned the "brutal terrorist act" and stressed its unwavering commitment to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice and held accountable.
Iran also called on the UN Security Council to strongly condemn the above terrorist act and take appropriate measures in line with the body's steadfast commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms.
