After completing his noble duty to the Fatherland and returning to his hometown, veteran Pham Xuan Hanh in Hamlet 1, Ben Quan town, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province continued his new task of developing the family economy. With great determination and hard work, this veteran has succeeded in developing a comprehensive economic model, building a prosperous and happy family life. In addition, Mr. Hanh is also enthusiastic and active in local social movements and work and is always loved and trusted by the people.

In 1986, young man Pham Xuan Hanh enlisted in the 308th Division and was assigned to the logistics department to perform combat support duties at the Vi Xuyen front in the war to protect the northern border of the Fatherland. In 1989, Pham Xuan Hanh left the army, returned to his hometown in Vinh Tu commune, Vinh Linh district and actively participated in local social activities, and was elected to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of Vinh Tu Commune Youth Union.
After getting married, Mr. Hanh and his wife went to Thua Thien Hue province to work as factory workers. “After many years of working as a factory worker, I realized that if I continued doing this job, it would be difficult to develop the economy and become rich. On the other hand, I always missed my hometown and wanted to return to build a better life, especially trying to earn a better income to take care of my children and have a decent life,” Mr. Hanh confided.
Thinking is doing, in 2000, Mr. Hanh ran around and saved up to buy a 2-hectare plot of land in Ben Quan town, Vinh Linh district with the determination to develop the economy here. In 2005, Mr. Hanh and his family officially returned to their hometown and moved to live in Ben Quan town. In the beginning of coming to the new land, his family's life inevitably faced difficulties and struggles.
However, with the will to not give up on poverty and the spirit of a soldier who does not fear hardship, Mr. Hanh started to take care of, restore and renovate the mixed garden from the barren, wild land. Clearly identifying the strength of this land is to develop rubber trees, he decided to replace the old rubber garden with new rubber varieties of higher quality.
With the small amount of savings plus a loan of 50 million VND from the Veterans Association, Mr. Hanh went to Nha Bich Farm, Chon Thanh District, Binh Phuoc Province to select and bring rubber varieties for planting as well as provide seedlings for local people. Next, he invested in planting more cajuput trees and a variety of fruit trees such as grapefruit, jackfruit, mango, guava, pineapple...; and developed cattle, pig and poultry farming.
With his constant efforts, Mr. Hanh has now successfully built a comprehensive economic model with 2 hectares of rubber, 10 hectares of cajuput, more than 10 cows, dozens of quality fruit trees, with an average annual income of 1.3 to 1.5 billion VND. When his family's economy was stable, Mr. Hanh spent time actively instructing war veterans and local people on experiences, techniques... to take care of crops and livestock to develop the economy, enrich himself, and enrich his homeland.
Not only persistent and diligent in economic development, CCB Pham Xuan Hanh is also an active and enthusiastic hamlet leader in local activities. Since coming to his "second homeland", Mr. Hanh has always actively participated in local associations and organizations in many roles. In every position, he has devoted himself with the desire to contribute to the overall development of Ben Quan town. In 2015, he was elected as Head of Khe Cay hamlet.
He shared: “As a village chief, I always try to be close to the people, understand the people and uphold the spirit of “telling the people, making the people believe”. Fortunately, from the vivid evidence of myself, having been trained through the military environment, being steadfast and determined to achieve the goal of economic development, I am trusted by the people. In addition, during my work, I always pay close attention, listen to opinions; directly grasp the thoughts and legitimate aspirations of the people to have effective solutions”.
In 2019, Khe Cay hamlet and Nga Tu hamlet of Ben Quan town merged into a new hamlet named Hamlet 1. Mr. Hanh continued to be trusted and elected as Head of Hamlet 1. Now, Hamlet 1 is a strong unit of Ben Quan town when people's lives are improved, the economy of all households is developing; people in the hamlet are always united in all activities. To achieve that result, there is a large part thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm in the work of veteran Pham Xuan Hanh in the position of hamlet head.
He recounted that after the merger, the biggest difficulty was the large area, the people had different economic activities and living habits, so they were somewhat confused and not united with each other. Realizing that, Mr. Hanh determined to unite the community through meetings, art festivals, combining people from the two old hamlets to carry out common tasks for the new hamlet. To create consensus and unity into a bloc, he initiated the organization of many friendly matches, sports tournaments, and improved the spiritual life of the people.
From the initial confusion, up to now, Hamlet 1 has developed strongly in all aspects with 230 households and 820 people. Recently, the people of Hamlet 1 were excited to complete 2 projects to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Ben Quan 1/8 town (1994-2024), which are: the concrete road project within the hamlet with a total cost of 110 million VND and the grassroots volleyball court project worth 70 million VND.
All the projects were contributed by the people themselves along with the socialized revenue that Mr. Hanh directly called for support. Now, in every stage of the development of the homeland, it can be said that there is a strong mark of the wholehearted dedication and devotion to the people of Party Committee member, Deputy Secretary of Party Cell, Head of Hamlet 1 Pham Xuan Hanh.
He added: “As a soldier, I always keep in mind that once we have gone through and won a fierce war with the invaders, on any front, we will not hesitate to be pioneers and determined to achieve the desired results.”
