On the evening of February 17, Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 6, Road Traffic Control Patrol Guidance Department (Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security) said that the unit had just temporarily closed a section of Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Highway, starting from km63, through Xuan Loc district.

According to SGGP Newspaper's reporter, on the afternoon of February 17, the number of vehicles gradually increased on the highway through Dong Nai (from the Northern, Central, and Central Highlands provinces to Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City) on the two expressways Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay and by about 4:00 p.m. on February 17, a long line of vehicles was formed through the districts of Long Thanh, Thong Nhat, Cam My, and Xuan Loc.

Mr. Tran Quang Phu (in District 7) traveled from Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City and spent more than 8.5 hours. He said that the most congested section on the highway was from Xuan Loc to Dau Giay due to the large number of vehicles and a collision between two cars. Because they had to move slowly on the highway, many cars even entered the emergency lane but still could not get out. At around 4:30 p.m., authorities had to intervene to temporarily close the road and divert some vehicles to National Highway 1 to go through Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of the East and Southwest.

It is forecasted that the number of vehicles will continue to flow to Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces on February 17 and 18, so the Traffic Police Department, Dong Nai Provincial Police and Vietnam Expressway Technical Services Joint Stock Company will divert vehicles on the expressway to the national highway, limiting vehicles from the national highway to the expressway to ensure traffic flow and limit prolonged congestion.
