Candidates for high school teacher recruitment last June

On September 1, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that as of August 28, 12 districts had completed teacher recruitment for the 2023-2024 school year, with 1,243 positions.

Specifically, in the 2023-2024 school year, Ho Chi Minh City needs to recruit 4,717 teachers: 1,051 preschool teachers, 1,667 primary school teachers, 1,748 secondary school teachers and 251 high school teachers.

To date, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has conducted the first round of teacher recruitment with 165 successful candidates. For other levels, 12 districts have recruited about 1,243 teachers. Localities that are in the process of implementing the recruitment process and waiting for results include districts 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, Binh Thanh, Go Vap and Thu Duc City.

According to the assessment of the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, due to high work pressure, the number of teachers trained from educational institutions has not met the current needs of schools, leading to a lack of human resources; salaries are not competitive with international and non-public educational institutions, so there are difficulties in the recruitment process. Especially at the primary and secondary levels, there is a difficulty in recruiting teachers of music, information technology, and English.

Ho Chi Minh City is currently facing difficulties in recruiting teachers.

At the same time, in the report on the demand for teachers in the 2023-2024 school year sent by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, made proposals and recommendations on the staffing of the education sector.

According to Mr. Duc, currently, educational institutions in Ho Chi Minh City are facing many difficulties. Specifically, educational institutions do not have enough revenue to pay for the number of teachers to meet the needs and teacher quotas according to regulations, especially for preschool educational institutions. This leads to difficulties in increasing the autonomy of educational institutions.

Although the demand for human resources is very urgent, educational institutions are still unable to recruit the required number because there are some positions that have no candidates registered for recruitment. Accordingly, in order to support educational institutions to operate effectively and meet the learning needs of children, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee proposed that the Ministry of Home Affairs consider and supplement the number of teachers for the 2023-2024 school year to suit the actual situation in the locality.
