The October movie race is getting more exciting with a series of films of various genres from both foreign and domestic audiences. Among them, 2 Vietnamese films released in October have both received high expectations from Vietnamese audiences.

In October, Vietnamese audiences will enjoy the anticipated Hollywood blockbusters, including “Joker: Folie à deux” (original title: Joker: Folie à deux) and “Venom: The Last Dance”. Of which, “Joker: Folie à deux” will be released on October 4, marking the return of Joker after 5 years and is one of the most anticipated works worldwide. “Joker: Folie à deux” marks the collaboration of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady GaGa, continuing to take viewers on Arthur Fleck’s crazy and complex psychological journey. At the Venice Film Festival in September 2024, “Joker: Folie à deux” received an 11-minute standing ovation from the audience.
The next blockbuster is “Venom: The Last Dance” starring Tom Hardy. This action, sci-fi film will officially be released to Vietnamese audiences on October 25. The film, directed by Kelly Marcel, continues the events of the previous part two and tells the journey of Eddie Brock (played by Tom Hardy) and the parasitic creature Venom as they face new challenges.
The famous animated film about Japan during World War II, “Grave of the Fireflies,” directed by Isao Takahata, was also released to Vietnamese audiences on the big screen on October 4. “Grave of the Fireflies” is known as an animated masterpiece and at the same time a famous work of the Ghibli animation studio. Released in 1988, this work has always won the hearts of critics and audiences around the world, including many Vietnamese audiences. On the film review site Rotten Tomatoes, “Grave of the Fireflies” received an absolute score of 100% from 46 reviews by international film critics.
Another action movie from Korea that has also received a lot of attention is “The Unknown Boss”. The movie is directed by Lim Seong Yong and tells the story of a newly emerged gang boss named Kwon Sang Gon (played by Chun Jung Myung). He thought he would live a peaceful life, but the underworld made Sang Gon enter a dangerous game that he could not predict the outcome.
In the horror genre, we cannot fail to mention “Ghost Eaters 2”, a series of Thai horror films that have achieved the highest revenue in Vietnam. “Ghost Eaters 2” continues the first film, telling the story of the journey to kill demons of the eldest brother Yak (played by Nadech Kugimiya). 3 years after the death of his sister Yam, Yak is still relentlessly hunting the mysterious black spirit that killed his sister. The film officially hit theaters on October 18 and is one of the most anticipated “blockbusters”.

In October, the Vietnamese film market will see the return of director Vu Ngoc Dang with "The Rich Bride" scheduled to be released on October 18. The film brings together many popular names such as: Thu Trang, Kieu Minh Tuan, Uyen An, People's Artist Hong Van...
The film revolves around Tu Lac (played by Uyen An) who, in order to marry Bao Hoang (played by Samuel An) - the CEO of a medical corporation, pretends to be a wealthy, intellectual family with her whole family. However, the truth is that Tu Lac's family only makes a living by making votive paper and doing housework. Social issues and the gap between rich and poor are promised to be shown through humorous and satirical situations.

Along with “The Rich Bride”, “Domino: The Last Exit” is an action film that has released an attractive trailer. The film, directed by Nguyen Phuc Huy Cuong, tells the story of a power struggle in the underworld. The film stars Thuan Nguyen (as An) and has dramatic, suspenseful details. “Domino: The Last Exit” will be released on October 11, almost directly competing with “The Rich Bride”, promising to create an interesting competition between the two Vietnamese films.
