Bac Lieu A 62-year-old woman was stung more than 50 times by wasps, leading to anaphylactic shock and was hospitalized in critical condition.
On November 23, a representative of Thanh Vu Medic Bac Lieu General Hospital said that the patient was brought to the emergency room feeling lethargic, restless, with swelling all over her body and severe pain. Her family said that she was cleaning the grass when she was accidentally attacked by a swarm of bees.
Initial test results showed that the patient had a severe blood clotting disorder, multiple organ damage, and a grade 2 anaphylactic reaction due to a bee sting leading to respiratory failure. The doctors of the Emergency Resuscitation Department combined many measures including optimal medical treatment, hemofiltration to adsorb toxins, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) to save the patient.
After 24 hours, the woman's health improved, the sting site was less painful and swollen. Multiple organ damage and blood clotting disorders were controlled. The patient was conscious, able to eat and talk normally. She is expected to be discharged after 7 days of treatment.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Huong, Deputy Head of the Emergency Department, bee stings are one of the common accidents that occur in labor and production, especially in places with many trees and bushes around.
Doctors recommend that you should never take a bee sting lightly because the venom of this animal, when accumulated too much in the body, will lead to the risk of multiple organ failure and endanger life.
When stung by a bee and have symptoms such as severe pain, swelling all over the body, drowsiness, difficulty breathing, nausea, blood in the urine... you need to go to a medical facility for timely diagnosis and treatment.
