On September 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the West was too "scared" to even dare to mention the possibility of shooting down Russian missiles and drones aimed at the Eastern European country.

AFP news agency quoted Mr. Zelensky speaking at a conference in the capital Kiev arguing: "If the allies together shoot down missiles and drones at locations in the Middle East, why has there not been a similar decision to jointly shoot down Russian missiles and Shaheds (Iranian) missiles in the sky of Ukraine?".
"They are afraid, they don't even dare to declare 'we intend to do it'. This is not done even when missiles and drones are really directed towards the territory of our neighboring countries," the Ukrainian president criticized.
Referring to the attack on Russia's Kursk province, the leader said the move had achieved the result Kiev had hoped for, which was to "slow down" Moscow's advance in eastern Ukraine, but admitted that the war was "very difficult".
Mr. Zelensky also confirmed that there are currently 40,000 Russian troops fighting in Kursk province because Moscow "wants quick breakthroughs".
Ukraine's operation in Kursk since August 6 marked the largest foreign military attack on Russian territory since World War II.
Also at the conference, the Ukrainian President announced that he would meet with his US counterpart Joe Biden "this month" to present a "winning plan" on how to end the two-and-a-half-year conflict with Russia.
The announcement comes as Mr Biden is set to discuss with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer whether Kiev should be allowed to use long-range missiles supplied by the West to strike deep into Russian territory.
Confirming that the meeting was planned, the Ukrainian leader did not give details on how to end the conflict, only stressing that his proposal would include "a system of interconnected solutions that will give Ukraine enough strength - enough to put this war on the right track to peace".
Mr Zelensky said he intended to hold another international peace summit in November to outline his vision for ending the fighting. Russia is expected to be invited.
