AFP reported that on March 30, President Donald Trump publicly affirmed that he was "not joking" when talking about the possibility of running for a third presidential term, despite the two-term limit stipulated in the US Constitution.

In a phone interview with NBC News, when asked to clarify his statement regarding running for another term, Mr. Trump emphasized: "I'm not kidding," and said "there are methods to do that."

The 78-year-old president added more information during an interview with reporters on Air Force One, suggesting that this could be a carefully prepared plan rather than simply a tentative statement.

Mr. Trump mentioned the strong support from the people for his administration, while mentioning that there are still nearly four years left to implement these plans.

Asked about the possibility that Vice President JD Vance could run for president and then cede the presidency to him, Trump confirmed that this was “one of the” options being considered. He also hinted at the existence of “other options” but declined to elaborate.

To amend the US Constitution to allow a president to serve three terms would require a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate - something Mr Trump's Republican Party currently does not have - or a constitutional convention convened by two-thirds of the states to propose changes./.
