Mr Fico's Social Democratic Orientation Party (Smer-SD) came first in the general election on September 30 and formed a coalition with two other parties.
The appointment ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace and was broadcast live on Slovak media. This is Mr. Fico's fourth term as Prime Minister of Slovakia. During the election campaign, the politician's Smer-SD party expressed its opposition to military aid to Ukraine.
In the early elections for the Council of State (Parliament) of Slovakia on September 30, Smer-SD came first with 42 seats in the 150-seat Parliament.
