On May 22, Saigon Water Corporation (SAWACO) opened the 2023 Science, Technology and Innovation Week (from May 22 to 25). This is also an opportunity to introduce topics, innovative products, models, ideas, and typical solutions of SAWACO staff and employees and affiliated units in the movement of scientific research, skilled labor and innovation.
Gradually reduce manual labor
At the exhibition, Mr. Nguyen Tran Lam, Deputy Technical Director of Tan Hoa Water Supply Joint Stock Company, introduced a solution for an automatic tool to calculate valve step data and warn of abnormalities in the operation of the water supply network. This is a step forward in the work of checking and detecting water leaks.
Previously, when searching for leaking pipes, Tan Hoa Water Supply Joint Stock Company employees had to go through the steps of reading the index, closing the valve to check if the water flow had increased or not, from which they could predict the risk of leakage. Employees directly opened the meter cabinet to record the index, had to record the index every 30 minutes, then manually calculated the leakage level. Usually, the time to check was after 0:00, when people's water demand was low.
Tan Hoa Water Supply Joint Stock Company introduces a breakthrough solution in water leak detection
Since researching and applying the automatic tool to calculate valve step data and abnormal warnings, the working stages of employees have been shortened.
Accordingly, every day, the server will automatically send an abnormal data warning according to the schedule via the Zalo OA channel. The notification message will include a link to the output, pressure and flow analysis tool for detailed viewing. From there, employees can receive warnings of abnormal flow fluctuations on their mobile devices. Based on that, consider the possibility of early pipeline leaks and leaks and deploy the fastest and most effective detection.
The application of information technology helps save manpower and time, especially the level of calculation by machine has higher accuracy. This also helps to focus human resources to detect leaks after the results of closing the step valve, shortening the time when detecting leaking pipes.
"Company employees regularly exchange ideas and suggestions to apply information technology, gradually improving techniques. Following the general trend of SAWACO is to build a smart water supply system, Tan Hoa Company will constantly strive to have quality products every year to bring to the week, contributing to building a smart city," Mr. Lam shared.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nhan, Operation Team Leader, Technical Department, Phu Hoa Tan Water Supply Company brought the initiative of automatic pressure controller, using pressure sensor connected to the input of pressure reducing valve. The automatic pressure controller uses control application on Android operating system, convenient for remote monitoring and control.
According to Mr. Nhan, when there is a problem with the Pilot pressure regulator or when there is a fire in the area, the management staff can sit on the spot to adjust and increase the pressure remotely instead of having to run to the scene to manually open the valve as before. Or when there is a water pipe burst, just send an SMS to close the pressure reducing valve remotely, without having to run to the scene, this helps save time and working resources.
On this occasion, Thu Duc Water Supply Joint Stock Company brought the initiative "Building a model of a group of vehicles to quickly respond to emergency incidents on the water supply network". The emergency response vehicle is fully equipped with necessary equipment to help the work be done easily and quickly, ensuring labor safety, reducing the difficulty when repairing broken pipes. The vehicle is compactly designed, can move in inner-city areas and narrow roads.
Currently, Thu Duc Water Supply Joint Stock Company has 5 response vehicles in operation, contributing to reducing labor and improving safety for workers on site, while reducing the time to handle tasks such as repairing pipelines, replacing large water meters, making a main meter tunnel, reducing water loss, etc. The estimated cost savings are about 1 billion VND/year. In particular, the model helps ensure the safety of workers when performing work on site, especially at night.

Improve customer service quality
In order to improve the ability to manage customer information, Cho Lon Water Supply Joint Stock Company brings the initiative "Applying Contact Center system in operating, managing and taking care of customers".
Contact Center helps display available customer information; flexibly connects customer care with external devices such as Email, Zalo, Livechat...
When applying Contact Center, the system allows automatic recording and retrieval of customer information when there is an incoming call. Staff operating and receiving customer information via the Contact Center application only need one tool to process and support customers to contact through many different communication channels such as: text, webchat, video chat, social media, Email...
"Previously, Cho Lon Water Supply Joint Stock Company used a Call Center system, only receiving all complaints or handling all customer inquiries via phone, through a single hotline. Currently, the company is implementing interactions with customers on all means, and at the same time accessing the history of customer interactions with the company. From there, the company can track customer identification and have a faster, more effective way to handle it," said Mr. Viet, a support staff for the Contact Center system application.
Similarly, Gia Dinh Water Supply Joint Stock Company brings the initiative of an integrated Call Center system to reduce the time spent on receiving customers at the counter, quickly responding to customer requests and questions. Accordingly, when there is a call to report, the system will link customer data, displaying information according to the phone number called. In particular, the application integrates the main platform in managing the GIADINHGIS water supply network database, allowing viewing of information on the location of customers' water meters.
After the opening ceremony, SAWACO organized a workshop on ChatGPT application in customer service. The workshop discussed issues of ChatGPT application in customer care, questions and answers about administrative procedures, questions and answers about filling out forms, receiving customer complaints, analyzing data... serving the water supply sector.
Sharing with Thanh Nien , Mr. Bui Thanh Giang, Deputy General Director of SAWACO said that currently SAWACO and its affiliated units are organizing science and technology councils. Accordingly, every 6 months, SAWACO organizes reviews, individuals and units with good initiatives and technical solutions will be recognized, rewarded and widely disseminated.
According to Mr. Bui Thanh Giang, the most important thing in applying information technology and new initiatives is to provide maximum support for workers and make them feel a part of the company.
"During the process of developing the initiative, the union and the youth union coordinated to encourage, guide, and organize the creation of documents to help employees have more implementation methods. Even the leaders of the units supported all the financial resources from the research work to avoid the company's employees worrying about finances when implementing the initiative," said Mr. Bui Thanh Giang.
