Thai durian continues to increase?

Forecast for durian price on June 24, 2024, Ri6 durian price and Thai durian price in the Southwest region will continue to increase slightly.

Durian prices are showing signs of increasing slightly again because the amount of durians ready for harvest in the Western region is currently very low. According to representatives of durian growing regions, unfavorable weather conditions have also affected the productivity and output of Vietnamese durian, but Vietnam's total output has still increased thanks to many gardens entering harvest age.

Durian price forecast June 24: Will Thai durian continue to increase?

This year, due to the impact of the intense heat, durian trees suffered heat shock, causing many young fruits to fall off, and productivity to decrease sharply. Therefore, durian prices can fluctuate depending on the day.

Previously, the price of durian today, June 23, was the highest in the Southwest region and the lowest in the Southeast and Central Highlands. The price at the garden will be 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg lower than the updated price at the warehouse, depending on how the trader buys, buying in bulk or choosing the price.

In the Southwestern region, durian prices today increased slightly compared to yesterday. The beautiful Ri6 durian variety reached 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg and the Ri6 durian variety reached 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg; the beautiful Thai durian was at 84,000 - 87,000 VND/kg; the Thai durian variety was at 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg, continuing to increase slightly compared to the previous session.

For durian in the Southeast region, the price increased slightly compared to yesterday. Specifically, the purchase price at the warehouse, Ri6 beautiful durian is 63,000 - 65,000 VND/kg and Ri6 durian in bucket has a purchase price of 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg; Thai durian beautiful is at 84,000 - 87,000 VND/kg; meanwhile, Thai durian in bucket is at 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, in the Central Highlands, the price of beautiful Ri6 durian is at 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg and Ri6 durian in bucket is at 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg; beautiful Thai durian is at 80,000 - 82,000 VND/kg; Thai durian in bucket is at 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.

Depending on the length of the shipping route or shipping area, the price of durian will vary more or less.

It is forecasted that in the coming months, the export turnover of durian and vegetables may increase strongly again. The price of durian purchased at the garden has decreased, but due to better productivity, the income of growers is still guaranteed.

Vietnam’s durian harvest season is now in full swing. According to the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), this year’s durian output is estimated at 1.5 million tons, a sharp increase over last year.

On June 22, export packing warehouses announced that the price of Monthong (Dona) durian grade 1 fluctuated around 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg, grade 2 price 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg; Ri 6 durian grade 1 price 55,000 - 60,000 VND/kg, grade 2 price 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg.

Durian is one of the agricultural products favored by the billion-people Chinese market. Last April, Vietnam surpassed Thailand for the first time in exporting this fruit to China. In the past two years, the Chinese market has been "buying" the goods, so farmers have been able to sell durian at high prices.

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, in the first 4 months of this year, Vietnamese durian accounted for 39.2% of the total fresh durian imported by this country, an increase of 25.9 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, the proportion of imports from Thailand decreased to 60% of China's total imports, equivalent to a decrease of 26.7 percentage points.
