The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh; Danish Ambassador to Vietnam and Laos, Mr. Nicolai Prytz and the Embassy of the Netherlands. Delegates highly appreciated the impressive development of the HHIT deep-sea port project and the successful cooperation between Maersk and Hateco, which has contributed significantly to strengthening the trade and cultural relations between Europe and Vietnam.
Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port has a total area of 73 hectares, a wharf length of 900 m, and a depth of -16.8 m to -18.4 m in front of the wharf, marking an important turning point in the maritime sector, contributing to promoting international trade and creating economic development momentum for the North as well as the whole country.
The first smart port in Vietnam
Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port has a total area of 73 hectares, a wharf length of 900 m, and a depth of -16.8 m to -18.4 m. The port is capable of receiving 2 large container ships up to 200,000 DWT (≥ 18,000 TEU) at the same time, with a maximum ship length of 400 m. The establishment of the port marks an important turning point in the maritime sector, contributing to promoting international trade and creating economic development momentum for the North as well as the whole country.
With berths 5 and 6 invested with the most modern technology today, Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port will be the first smart port in Vietnam with automatic entrance and exit gates, semi-automatic wharfs, able to receive the largest ships in the world and go directly from the farthest places such as the west coast and east coast of the United States.

In terms of technology, the port is equipped with 10 STS shore cranes, 36 electric e-RTG cranes, and 1,350 refrigerated container sockets, ensuring loading and unloading speed and efficiency, while saving energy and being environmentally friendly. The port also applies a smart operating system: TOS software synchronizes all operations; the operations center (OC) monitors real-time; integrates QR recognition technology, OCR and smart security warnings.
In particular, this is the first port in Vietnam to deploy the TAS (Truck Appointment System) container truck appointment system, helping drivers to be more proactive, save time and improve operational efficiency.
Mr. Nicolai Prytz, Ambassador of Denmark, said that the project has an important contribution to Vietnam's green transformation goals.

Recognizing and appreciating the efforts of the enterprise to speed up the construction progress and put the project into operation soon, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, said that the volume of goods through Hai Phong port always has a high increase, from 12 - 15%/year, reaching 190 million tons in 2024 and expected to be 212 million tons in 2025.
In particular, Lach Huyen port area is planned to function as a gateway combined with international transit, with container, general cargo, bulk cargo, liquid/gas cargo terminals, international passenger ports, and public service ports; capable of receiving container ships up to 18,000 TEU; general cargo, bulk cargo ships up to 100,000 tons, liquid/gas cargo ships up to 150,000 tons, passenger ships up to 225,000 GT.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee awarded a certificate of merit to Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, General Director of Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port Company for his contributions to local economic development.
"The project of berths 5 and 6 of Lach Huyen port area (Hai Phong) invested by Hateco Group, approved by the Prime Minister under Decision 299/2021, has become the first deep-water seaport infrastructure development project in Vietnam from capital from the private economic sector. Talking to the Government E-newspaper about private enterprises participating in investing in the construction of maritime infrastructure, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Sang, Deputy Minister of Construction, affirmed: Maritime is always a field that attracts a large amount of private investment compared to other infrastructures with the motto that public infrastructure accounts for only 14% of total maritime investment. The upcoming orientation of the maritime industry is that investment resources from other economic sectors in seaport infrastructure will account for about 95% of total investment.
"The operation of berths 5 and 6 is a testament to the correct orientation of the Party and State in attracting other private sectors to infrastructure, including seaport infrastructure. At the same time, the operation of berths 5 and 6 and soon berths 3 and 4 will create a system of 6 ports in Lach Huyen. This is not only in line with the overall planning, meeting the freight transport needs of not only Hai Phong but also the entire northern region," the Deputy Minister affirmed.

Regarding the enterprise implementing the project, Mr. Tran Van Ky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hateco Group, said that immediately after receiving the Prime Minister's Decision, Hateco urgently focused all resources, coordinated with contractors, domestic and international consulting and supervision units to drastically and synchronously implement work items in accordance with legal regulations.
"The success of the project affirms Hateco's determination in implementing national projects, and is a clear demonstration of its financial capacity, ability to implement and control the quality of large-scale projects, contributing to the socio-economic development of the country," Mr. Ky emphasized.
For more information, Mr. Ky said that after the seaport project in the North, Hateco continues to research and invest in international seaport projects in the Central and Southern regions of Vietnam, creating a complete logistics chain in 3 regions, transporting goods, serving the national economy and creating a future for many generations.

Mr. Robert Uggla, Chairman of AP Moller Maersk Group, the parent company of APM Terminals, Hateco's strategic partner in implementing the HHIT Port project, also acknowledged: The most modern and largest deep-water container port in Northern Vietnam will support businesses, create jobs and connect Vietnam with the world in a more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly way.

At the ceremony, Hateco Group signed a memorandum of understanding with APM Terminals - a member of APMoller-Maersk Group to establish a strategic partnership in the port and logistics sector of Vietnam. The two sides will strengthen cooperation in two main areas: port development and exploitation and logistics activities.
The two sides will work together on port infrastructure projects, including investment, design and operational efficiency to enhance Vietnam’s port capacity. At the same time, closely link port operations to enhance connectivity between ports, logistics centers and inland transport to create seamless supply chain solutions and exploit synergies from existing port operations.
