Formed and developed more than 20 years ago, the tourist beaches in Gio Linh district were initially community beaches, mainly run by households who spontaneously set up shops to serve tourists swimming in the sea in order to increase income and improve the lives of people in Trung Giang, Gio Hai communes and Cua Viet town.
Recently, within the framework of the tourism infrastructure development project to support comprehensive growth in the Greater Mekong Subregion, phase 2, funded by ADB, the construction items of 3 community beaches including Trung Giang, Gio Hai and Cua Viet 2 have been invested in building infrastructure, lighting systems, observation... to ensure sufficient conditions for operation and exploitation of sea tourism potential in the coming time.
Chairman of Gio Linh District People's Committee Vo Dac Hoa said that the beach tourism season is approaching. To facilitate the business activities of people at the beaches, ensure sustainability, long-term and in line with the orientation of the organization and apparatus of the political system, Gio Linh District has sent a document requesting the Provincial People's Committee to unify the policy of assigning the task of managing the beaches in the district from the Project Management Board, Land Fund Development and Industrial Cluster of Gio Linh District to Gio Hai, Trung Giang communes and Cua Viet town.
Regarding the management and exploitation plan of the newly invested and built community beaches, according to Mr. Hoa, because some items of the project have not been completed, Gio Linh district has only received the current status of the infrastructure handover of the project items and made a record of the items that need to be fixed and repaired before being put into use. At the same time, it is proposed to prioritize and create conditions for local people to rent business premises.
Specifically, for 43 cases of businesses operating at Cua Viet 1 beach, the assets are mainly invested by households, Gio Linh district has sent a document requesting the Provincial People's Committee to approve the policy of designated auction for the current businesses.
For 30 sites at Cua Viet 2 beach, the initial goal of the project is to create livelihoods for people affected by the resettlement project to expand Cua Viet port. Therefore, it is proposed to conduct internal auctions for households affected by site clearance in Ward 7, Cua Viet town to solve livelihoods for people.
For 29 restaurants at Gio Hai beach, it is proposed to conduct a designated auction for 18 households currently operating at the beach; for the remaining 11 restaurants, it is proposed to conduct an internal auction for households in Village 6, Gio Hai commune affected by land clearance by the T&T tourism service project. Similarly, for 13 restaurants at Trung Giang beach, it is proposed to conduct an internal auction for a total of 25 households that previously operated at the beach to create long-term livelihoods and stabilize the lives of the people.
