Vietnam rowing team at the 2024 Asian Championship in Uzbekistan
The Vietnamese rowing team opened the 2024 Asian Championship with a gold medal in the women's doubles 1 oar event, when the athlete duo Pham Thi Hue - Dinh Thi Hao defeated the teams of China and Hong Kong on October 12.
Our second gold medal came from the women's 8-scull event won by Nguyen Thi Giang, Pham Thi Thao, Pham Thi Ngoc Anh, Le Thi Hien, Ha Thi Vui, Dinh Thi Hao, Pham Thi Hue, Du Thi Bong, and Luong Thi Thao on October 13.
This is the latest major tournament for Vietnamese rowing, after 3 bronze medals at the 2022 ASIAD and Pham Thi Hue's ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics. The highlight of the 2024 Asian Championship is the strong progress of the Uzbekistan team (winning 4 gold medals compared to no gold medals 2 years ago).

In addition, Vietnamese rowing also won 2 silver medals in the men's lightweight double sculls when Dinh The Nam and Nguyen Huu Thanh narrowly lost to the host pair of Uzbekistan athletes in the final, along with the women's 4-row 1-oar sculls of Pham Thi Ngoc Anh, Le Thi Hien, Ha Thi Vui, and Du Thi Bong.
Closing the 2024 Asian Rowing Championship1, the Vietnamese rowing team won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals, ranking 4th overall, after China (5 gold medals, 2 silver medals), host country Uzbekistan (4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 2 bronze medals) and Iran (2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 1 bronze medal).
This achievement is considered lower than the 2022 Asian Championship in Thailand, when the Vietnamese rowing team won a total of 4 gold medals and 2 bronze medals to rank second overall, only behind China (with the same 4 gold medals but 5 silver medals).
Leaving Uzbekistan, Vietnamese rowing athletes will return home to prepare for the 2024 national championship which will take place in Hai Phong at the end of October.
