Garbage 'suffocates' many canals in Quynh Luu district

A representative of the Quynh Luu Irrigation Enterprise said: The entire district has more than 20 locations where waste is regularly stagnant. Every day, the unit has to arrange dozens of workers to stand guard at the sluice gates and canals to collect waste from the source to clear the flow. In addition to providing water for rice irrigation, the main canals also provide raw water for four clean water plants in the district, including Quynh Thach, Quynh Hau, Quynh Yen and Quynh Luu Water Plant. Therefore, pollution caused by waste also affects the quality of the input water, threatening people's health. People in the upstream area need to raise awareness of household waste treatment and local authorities need to take measures.
