Turkey Vietnamese player Tran Quyet Chien defeated second seed Marco Zanetti 50-34 after 25 rounds in the quarter-finals of the 3-cushion carom world championship.

Quyet Chien and Zanetti were neck and neck at the start of the match in Ankara on the evening of September 9, with the gap never exceeding three points. However, when leading 15-13, the Vietnamese number one went on an 11-point streak to create a safe gap after 12 shots. The world number two only scored a maximum of six consecutive points in this match, so he could not catch up with Quyet Chien. With his high form, the world number 10 scored points in all eight final shots and won 50-34 after 25 shots.

Zanetti, 61, is a two-time world champion, in 2002 and 2008. Quyet Chien, 39, achieved an efficiency of 2.5 points per turn in this match, to reach the semi-finals for the first time. Previously, Quyet Chien was a two-time World Cup champion in Ho Chi Minh City in 2018 and Porto in 2023.

The World Championship for 3-cushion carom takes place annually, this year in Ankara, Turkey from September 6 to September 10. The World Cup takes place about six or seven times a year. The Vietnamese player with the best result in the world championship is Nguyen Duc Anh Chien when he reached the final and only lost to Torbjorn Blomdahl. In addition, Ma Minh Cam and Nguyen Quoc Nguyen have also reached the semi-finals.

Quyet Chien won all the way to the semi-finals this year. In the group stage, he defeated Omer Karakurt and Tolgahan Kiraz, averaging 1.702 points per match. In the round of 16, he defeated Emilio Sciacca 50-21 in 25 rounds, then beat Javier Vera 50-34 in 30 rounds. Quyet Chien's opponent in the semi-finals is the defending champion Tayfun Tasdemir.

Vietnam has one more representative in the quarterfinals, 28-year-old player Bao Phuong Vinh, and he will meet Pedro Piedrabuena on the evening of September 9.
