Yen Bai Hope Fund built a new school with 2 classrooms for Mong ethnic students, with the cooperation of UNIQLO Vietnam.
Trong Tro school, part of Hoa Hue Kindergarten, Ho Bon commune, Mu Cang Chai district, was started on November 24, including 2 classrooms with standard closed toilets and a kitchen.
Ms. Giang Thi Ca, Principal of Hoa Hue Kindergarten, said that the school has two old prefabricated classrooms and one classroom surrounded by corrugated iron that is now used as a warehouse. There is a lack of auxiliary facilities such as a kitchen and toilets, making it difficult to organize daily activities for students.

As one of two teachers working at the school, Ms. Lo Thi Tam shared that the old classroom was made of corrugated iron and was cramped, so it was hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The school was located on the top of a hill and the classrooms were not airtight, so students often got cold when winter came.
"I have been with Trong Tro for 12 years and have long dreamed of a solid school for both teachers and students. Many parents also shared that they feel more secure when the school is newly built, spacious and airy," said Ms. Tam.
Currently, Mu Cang Chai has 610 classrooms, including 154 semi-permanent classrooms and 23 temporary classrooms. A representative of the district's Department of Education and Training said that the construction of Trong Tro school aims to eliminate temporary and borrowed classrooms to make teaching and learning more convenient for teachers and students. "The new project also contributes to consolidating and improving the quality of comprehensive education, meeting the requirements of educational innovation according to the preschool education program, creating a safe and friendly teaching and learning environment for teachers and students," the representative of the district's Department of Education and Training added.
To raise funds for the Hope Foundation’s project to build a new Trong Tro school, UNIQLO has been holding a UTme! T-shirt design contest since August, themed “Connecting Vietnam and Japan”. The winning entries will be printed on shirts and sold in select stores. All proceeds from the collection (through December) will be donated to the school’s construction.
In addition to the first and second prizes, the organizers also awarded the Inspiration Award to author Nam Long - a deaf contestant with a passion for painting and architecture. Long brought the work "Two Friends" with the image of two girls symbolizing the friendship between Vietnam and Japan.
Nam Long with inspirational work was awarded an application product by UNIQLO representative.
The Trong Tro school project is part of the "Light of Schools" program implemented by the Hope Fund since 2018. Up to now, 30 new schools have been handed over and put into use in Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Son La, Dien Bien, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Binh Phuoc... contributing to improving learning conditions for tens of thousands of students and teachers.
Not only supporting the construction of schools, UNIQLO also accompanied the Hope Fund to donate more than 20,000 clothing products to difficult circumstances such as people in the flood-hit areas of the Central region, students in the highlands of Dien Bien, Son La, and Ha Giang. During the Covid-19 pandemic, this unit, through the Fund, donated 4,000 AIRism shirts and 1,000 masks to frontline forces such as doctors, medical staff, etc.
To further motivate children in the highlands to have the opportunity to improve their lives, the Hope Fund – VnExpress newspaper continues to accept donations in the School Light program. Each contribution from readers is another ray of light sent to the future generation. Readers can see information about the program here.
