Israeli forces intensified military operations in the northern and southern Gaza Strip on June 28. In Rafah, Palestinian health officials said Israeli tank shelling killed at least 11 people.
The Israeli military said its forces were carrying out “targeted” strikes in the Shejaia neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, adding that its air force had struck dozens of Hamas military targets in the area.
Meanwhile, residents and Hamas media in Gaza said Israeli tanks had advanced further west into the Shakoush area of Rafah, forcing thousands of people sheltering there to leave their tents and evacuate north to Khan Younis.
Earlier, doctors said several Palestinians were killed and wounded in the Israeli shelling. Medical personnel were unable to reach all the casualties due to the fierce fighting. The Israeli army has asked residents of the surrounding areas east of Gaza City to immediately evacuate.
