A visit of attachment and trust
At the invitation of Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan will lead a Vietnamese delegation on an official visit to Denmark from November 20-22.
In the context of the current positive developments in Vietnam-Denmark relations, the Vice President’s visit is of great significance, especially as the two countries are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Partnership and taking place right after the establishment of the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership. In that spirit, I would like to emphasize a few points.
Firstly , the visit continues to affirm the closeness, trust and mutual understanding between the leaders of the two countries, contributing to strengthening and deepening the Vietnam-Denmark bilateral relationship.
Second , less than a month after the two countries' Prime Ministers approved the joint statement establishing the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership (November 1), Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and the Vietnamese delegation paid an official visit to Denmark with a program of activities with many specific and substantive contents to implement the commitments of the two countries' leaders to promote cooperation related to green transformation and sustainable development.
Third , according to the program, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan will meet with Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, hold talks with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and meet with Speaker of the Danish Parliament Søren Gade; attend the 10th anniversary celebration of the Comprehensive Partnership co-hosted by the Copenhagen City Council and the Vietnamese Embassy in Denmark; meet with the Vietnamese community in Denmark and visit and work with many Danish businesses operating in the field of green growth and sustainable development.

It is expected that during the meetings with Danish senior leaders, in addition to discussing international and regional issues of mutual concern, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan will focus on discussing with Danish leaders measures to strengthen and deepen the traditional and friendly relations between Vietnam and Denmark as well as discuss new cooperation contents that are valuable for Vietnam's sustainable development.
In addition, the Vice President's meetings with Danish businesses also contributed to affirming Vietnam's commitment to creating a stable and favorable environment, strengthening the confidence of foreign businesses, including Danish businesses, in the investment and business environment in Vietnam, contributing to realizing the policy of shifting from "quantity" to "quality" in investment promotion, attracting more green, high-quality investment projects of Danish businesses to Vietnam.
"With such a dense and focused program of activities, I believe that the visit of Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and the Vietnamese delegation will be a great success, contributing to the consolidation and comprehensive upgrading of cooperation contents between Vietnam and Denmark." |
With such a dense and focused program of activities, I believe that the visit of Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and the Vietnamese delegation will be a great success, contributing to the consolidation and comprehensive upgrading of cooperation contents between Vietnam and Denmark, for the development of the country as well as enhancing the position and prestige of Vietnam in solving global issues on the environment, green transformation and sustainable development.
The space for cooperation is increasingly open.
It can be affirmed that the Vietnam-Denmark Comprehensive Partnership has developed very well over the past 10 years . This is demonstrated by , firstly , the current political and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Denmark, which demonstrate high political trust and special affection and attachment between the leaders and people of the two countries. The two sides regularly maintain delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level visits and contacts, which both demonstrate respect for each other's role and provide guidance for specific cooperation contents.
The most recent visit to Vietnam by the Crown Prince and Princess in early November 2022 focused on discussing cooperation in the field of green transition with the participation of nearly 40 leading Danish and Vietnamese enterprises. During the visit, the two sides signed 14 Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation in the field of energy, especially renewable energy.

Second , economic, trade and investment cooperation has developed strongly over the past decade, achieving very encouraging results. Total bilateral trade turnover over the past 10 years has nearly doubled, from 480 million USD in 2013 to nearly 900 million USD in 2022.
More and more Danish investors are interested in seeking opportunities to expand their business and production in Vietnam. As of the end of December 2022, Denmark had 155 active investment projects with a total registered capital of more than 1.787 billion USD, ranking 22nd out of 141 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
Third, the strategic cooperation programs by sector (SSC), focusing on energy - environment, agriculture - agricultural products, health, education and statistics are being implemented very effectively by the two countries, notably the Vietnam - Denmark Energy Partnership Cooperation Program (currently in phase 3 from 2020-2025). In addition, cooperation in a number of other fields such as science and technology, justice, people-to-people exchange, culture, etc. is also becoming increasingly substantive.
I believe that the potential for cooperation between the two countries is huge, with much room for development. From a bilateral perspective, the upgrading of the relationship to a Green Strategic Partnership will open a new chapter in the Vietnam-Denmark cooperation relationship.
Denmark is a country with high determination, with drastic and specific policies to realize the goal of being a leader in green transformation and sustainable development in the world today. These are also areas where we have great need for cooperation in the spirit of directing to determine that people are at the center of all decisions, not trading growth at all costs of the "10-year Socio-Economic Development Strategy 2021-2030" issued at the 13th National Party Congress and the "National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021-2030, vision 2050" approved by the Government in October 2021.
Denmark also highly appreciated Vietnam's commitments to bring net emissions to "zero" by 2050 made by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at COP-26, considering Vietnam as one of the leading important partners in the transition to a green economy.
Besides the "secret" to happiness, we can share the "secret" to green living of the Danish people for more sustainable and prosperous development. |
Therefore, if the newly established framework is effectively utilized, it will bring practical benefits to Vietnam in gradually moving the country from an economy dependent on fossil energy as it is now to a new stage of development, becoming a green, circular, sustainable economy, which is also the general development trend of the world today.
From a multilateral perspective, Vietnam and Denmark regularly support each other at international and regional multilateral forums such as the United Nations and its organizations, ASEM, ASEAN-EU, the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Forum, etc., demonstrating both the high political trust between the two countries and Denmark's appreciation and positive assessment of Vietnam's foreign policy on international and regional issues.
In conclusion, with a solid foundation and trust from both sides, the new horizon of Vietnam-Denmark cooperation is increasingly open, meeting the needs and interests of both sides.
Besides the "secret" to happiness, we can share the "secret" to green living of the Danish people for more sustainable and prosperous development.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Denmark will continue to strive to become a bridge between the people and businesses of the two countries, contributing to the common development of the country as well as the comprehensive and strategic relationship between Vietnam and Denmark.
